Oil Type
Hi,
I did a quick search for "oil" but it came up with loads none of which looked like they would answer my question.
I believe my 9 takes 5w-30 semi-synthetic (correct?) but the local garage only has 5w-30 fully synthetic... the oil is just above "low" should I use this or hunt around for semi-synthetic? The 8 is a Europe, 230 if that makes any difference.
I kinda need to know soon as I am going on a 200+ mile drive tomorrow morning.

I wouldnt worry about it, semi-syn oil can be mixed with any major brand of full syn OR regular dyno oil, being that the car is already full of semi syn, adding about 1-2 qts of fully syn oil wont make much of a difference, it will just mix with the other oil and make a semi-syn that is a little more on the syn side than it was before.
I run ALL syn fluids in my car now, and its running better than ever.
cheers

Thanks,
That's a good point, it should mix and just make a more syn mix... I will try a couple of service stations on my trip, and if I have not found one after 100 miles or so I will just go with the fully syn oil and pick up the correct stuff from my dealer who I am going to on Monday to have the illuminated gear **** replaced.
BTW, the dealer said it was full of oil and to check it after 1,000 miles, I have only done 300 ish and its 5mm above low :/

So it seems that it is ok to just keep using fully synth oil.
Just had my baby serviced and noted that on the invoice they used fully synthetic oil. I question the service guy and he stated that 'everything was going synthetic now and that it was recommended by Mazda'. Well, short of calling him a liar I had to take his word for it.
Just rang Mazda and checked with the technical team and they confirmed that fully synthetic oil was OK for RX8 but not RX7. Also asked whether I can mix the new fully synthetic with the Mazda Delexia (semi synth??) oil which I have a couple of bottles of. Was told that it was fine to mix as long as the oil had a synthetic element and was not non-synthetic.
