Mike: you're waaayyyy out of line here.
Debodave: definitely sounds flooded to me. I didn't read every single post, I sort of skimmed through but have you ever had your battery, starter, and plugs upgraded?
This should help you: http://www.finishlineperformance.com...48-06-1691.pdf
If you've never taken a look at the plugs, I might suggest doing that when you get a chance.
- Jack up the front left side of the vehicle
- use a 21 mm deep socket to take the lugs off
- remove wheel
- spark plugs should be directly ahead of you.
- brown is okay, black is bad.
- Take out the leading plug. If it has no groove in it, you have the old style plugs.
Rotaries can go through plugs faster then normal piston engines so it wouldn't be a bad idea to check them out.

Sounds like you likely have a minor problem debodave. Take a few breaths, relax, find out for sure what's going on before you have a stroke or something.
The bolded part is what makes arguing with said peoples pretty pointless. But I applaud your effort hough.
Operator error. Stop doing things right, dumas.
What!!?? Educating potential buyers costs money in training and such, not to mention all the money the service department would lose when things don't go wrong. Silly.

We ALL need to understand that there will always be new owners whom are not familiar with this car and it's peculiarities. Flaming someone who does not understand simply bc you're tired of hearing/seeing these questions shows your lack of patience and immaturity. Perhaps, instead of posting a mean comment you may simply get out of the thread...........

Yep.. i JUST got off the phone with Amy at the dealership. They sent one of their service guys to my car still sitting in the parking garage to try and get it started. After 2 hours of trying to start the damn thing he finally got it to crank. They told me it was a combination of several things.. being EXTREMELY flooded and the original starter/battery/sparkplugs that needed to be replaced anyway. They had to disconnect the fuel lines to drain the gas out of the engine.... thats how bad it was.
SOOO, in the end yes it was technically my fault for flooding the engine and not knowing the quirkiness of the rotary to adequately prevent flooding in the first place. BUT its not my fault that the original factory starter/battery/sparkplugs are basically crap. (ill get these replaced soon)
And you have to admit that all of you would have been just as upset and frustrated with the car if this had happened to you 3 days after getting your car back from a 3-4 week transmission replacement.
I admit to being wrong here guys. please dont flame me too hard

Glad it was nothing major. Now you know to be a bit more careful, and you're equipped with lots of TSBs - which should be helpful in getting the fixes you need at little or no cost.
Don't worry too much about the flaming. People seem to easily forget there was a time when they knew nothing about the rotary, too.

not too sure why you threw that in there... redline isnt what's is recommended to prevent flooding. If you are hitting the red line the hopefully you've warmed the engine up, in which case it shouldnt flood anyways... But red line is suggested for cleaning out carbon build up. Now I'm not sure if less carbon build up means less flooding.
somewhat random question: I thought since the latests flashes there havnt really been many floods... I seem to remember some people specifically trying and still not getting a flooded engine.

not to mention a lot of times people who start a thread about *Ahh my car wont start can you help* are usually the group of people who :
- Never change their plugs or THOUGHT that dealer changed all 4 plugs during recall.
- Never change their coils after a lot of miles
- Never did the Engine No Start TSB.
- Never updated the ECU (recall or later flash)
- Never did any maintance
- Trust the dealership
- What else ... hmm will update it later

haha.. i never did it very often.. but i've done it enough over the past 4 years that i was pretty surprised that it finally flooded when my dad did it :/ Also, I had my PCM updated about a year ago, which claimed to fix the flooding issue. Dealership took most of the day to get it started.. I'm guessing it was flooded pretty badly.. they told me they might have to change the starter.. but ended up replacing just the spark plugs.. sigh Maybe the next time it floods and they have to spend an entire day on it, they will take the 30 mins time to replace the starter.

Anyways i do sympathize with the OP.. nothing more frustrating when you're running out of the house, already late for an appointment, and your damn car wont start because of a SERIOUS engineering flaw. And it appears that in a foolish attempt to cut costs, mazda originally put in a weak battery, starter, and spark plugs that only exacerberated the flooding problem and probably cost the company A LOT. AND STILL, dealerships such as mine still skimp out on upgrading the starter and risk another 8 hours of labor and the cost of towing and providing a loaner, etc.

i wonder if anyone could call this a...personal attack?
weren't you just warned about not doing this by a moderator?
it seems to me that you just didn't get the hint...
i admit, i was out of line in my posts and i give my deepest apologies. but to keep doing the same thing after you have been told to stop by someone of authority!? it seems like you just didn't learn...
moderator, i'm sure that if i did something like this after you telling me to stop that i would have been given some sort of consequence. in the interest of equality here on the forums, i ask that you take into consideration his blatant disregard of the rules after he has been given a second chance by a moderator and told to cut it out. perhaps a temporary ban or restriction will teach him to start following the rules especially after he's been given a chance and told he is doing wrong.
i'll be sending a PM to the moderator as well in case he doesn't see this
