I'll snap his neck.
My AT is so fast that it looks slow. Kind of like when the 6 million dollar man would run.
But mac is right, I do really enjoy my 4AT with the 4.77 gear. The 4.77 gear definitely makes it more fun to drive.

theres a couple of places in america you can get some really nice curving roads... If you're really luck you'll look out of the city and try to find the back country roads that make driving Oh so very delicious... Its like drinking an energy drink in the wee hours to wake up.

Sell your auto and get a manual.
If you want the ultimate track day car for the price, then nothing can touch an Evo, even the WRX STi is not better on the track. If you have a little more cash, then a Lotus Exige is the way to go.
If you don't believe it, then check out the timesheets from a recent track day. The Evos and WRX STis are fairly close in time to Corvettes and Porsches, whereas the RX8 is nowhere close to the times of any of the cars I listed.
Or you could sell your car. Get an old truck to use as a hauler, and get a shifter kart or an older formula car. Nothing is better than a purpose built race machine without all the extra weight of street equipment.

I find the RX-8 drives well with a 6-speed auto. This auto has the manu-matic with the steering-mounted buttons for changing gears, which gives you some control on which gear you want to stay. It is only 35 HP difference between the manual and automatic version. It is likely the auto-equipped RX-8 may last longer than the manual RX-8 because you can spin the rotary engine over 9000 RPM while the auto version keep you around 7000 RPM (less wear and tear).

I've read more BS about a/ts in this thread than in all the other threads combined. An a/t is as slow as you make it. An a/t will never be the equal of a m/t but you can improve it. If you want to talk a/t then see the a/t section of the forum and you will see the mods that are available to the a/t. Last comment is FI your a/t and you will find the car Mazda should have built. Come to SSX and see the mods that are available and the 8s that did not just talk about lack of power but did something about it.
