is this okay to buy?

Hello from Canada!

I was looking at to buy an used RX-8, and I found one at used car dealership.
It's off-lease 05 rx-8 with 51,000km ($17,000 tax in - cars are pricy in Canada ).

I asked if the RX-8 has done the following recalls

a) PCM (Powertrain Control Module) Flash
b) catalytic converters replaced
c) Ignition Coils
d) Starter and Battery
e) Upgraded Spark plugs
f) Rough Idle – the Engine mounts and mount brackets

The dealer said he will figure out it tomorrow and

1. If there's any recalls not done yet, he will do them all.
2. He also said he will give me a new set of tires,
rotors and break pad.
4. If there's any warranty left, he will buy a 2yrs-extended warranty on it from Mazda.
If the warranty's done, he will buy another 2yrs warranty from third party.

The one thing I found is there was a crack in the bottom middle of
windshild. (star-shape). The dealer said he will replace it to a new
windshield.

When it's idling, I could feel it's bit rough and see shift ****'s vibrating.
Road noise was worse than mazda 3, which is my current car.
(is it normal?)

Do you think it's worth to buy? (I think the price is fair, so only worry
about is the condition of the car)

Is there anything more I need to check?

If the dealer addresses all the issues then it seems okay. Are there any maintenance records? I would cal Mazda of Canada and find out the dealer service record.

To begin with I am not familiar with the car prices in Canada. Thus, I am not sure if $17,000 is a fair price. My story is the following:
Last year (Oct 08) I bought an 04 gt, manual transmission, and cloth interior with 42000 miles at $13,700. Spark plugs, wires, coils, pads and rotors were changed just before the sale. Front tires had 13000 miles and the rear tires 3000 miles. The car came with an extended warranty on the engine (100,000 miles or 8 years) and power terrain (60,000 miles or 5 years). The warranties were offered from Mazda and not any third parties (heard recently some weird stuff about warranty companies). The car has today 52,000 miles and no problems. I have done 4 oil changes, upgraded the battery, changed an air filter, and the CAT (fortunately was covered by the warranty). I love the car 101%! Not a gas saver but I bet you already know. I would suggest you to take a look at the 8's sold at this forum and see how much similar cars to the one you have seen cost. Best luck with your decision.

From what I've seen equiv come out of Canadian exchange rates (avg) that's about right.

If they are willing to replace the windshield, do all the recalls, and put it under warranty, that's great.

Some things are not recalls, but really need to be done on the car:

Go over that in DETAIL.

If it's shaking at idle, motor mounts could be bad. That's not a recall, its a Service Bulliten though.

When he says warranty, make sure he's talking bumper to bumper warranty (for at least the two years). If he's not, I would understand that, but go over the service bulletins and start inspecting things yourself. Just some things from my experience:

check the oil for any condensation (white film on dipstick)
check the tail lights for condensation

sounds like you know the rest to look for. good luck!

If it was leased, i personally would stay away, because leasing sometimes means the guy who leased it could rod the **** out of it and treat it like crap, then give it back. However it could have been a car enthusiest who took really good care of it, but i dunno looking at ex-lease cars scares me.

The dealer is changing his statement.

He said that he can't done the recalls because the bumper to bumper
warranty on the car is finished.

Is it true that I can't do recalls if the warranty is done?

A recall is covered even if it is out of it's warranty period.
TSBs are different.

So the a) to f) that I listed above is TSB (what's TSB)?
Those can't be covered if the car does not have any warranty remaining?

Ignition coils, wires, upgraded starter, and battery are TSB. Mazda covers the CAT utnil 70,000 miles.

Here are all the new and older TSB. Older ones apply only if you still have a bumper to bumper warranty. Take a look, you have nothing to loose. Perhaps some apply to your car.
