Couldn't imagine how you feel. My girlfriend has somehow managed to get my 8 (ok, "our" 8.. shudder) towed twice in the last 2 days. Both times... no flatbed I've gone over the thing with a fine tooth comb and no damage. But I'm pissed about this, I couldn't imagine being in your situation.

Good to see that on this forum alot of people would own up. I hate people like that and unfortunately it seems they are the majority. My wife's Mazda 6 got a ding less then a week after we got it. If you open your door and put a obvious quarter size dent in a brand new car be an adult and let them know. I swear i will be in jail for delivering a good azzwhipping if I ever get lucky enough to catch the sobs in the act of trying to drive off or slamming their door into mine on purpose. I honestly feel my blood pressure rise when i have to park in a public place. People are so damn rude.

Thats terrible man. I live in Boston and i can guarantee less than 10% of the people here would actually leave a note or otherwise own up to it. The states have become a place where if you can get away with it, get away with it. I've got a golf sized ding in my right rear fender because the kids at my apt complex were playing catch with a golf ball (are you kidding me?). When I confronted the parents about it, she asked her kid if he did it, he said no, then she told me i should be ashamed of myself for accusing a kid or this. I couldn't believe it, I should have taken a picture. Another incident last summer. There was a lady in my apartment complex out playing with her kids (which is in itself against the rules of the apartment complex, kids can't play in the premesis). While she was watching them she decided to have a nice relaxing seat on the hood of my car. I see this and proceed outside to ask her to not sit on my car. By the time I get out there her husband has now come out and is sitting on my car as well. When I ask them both to not do that, they make a snide comment about me being too paranoid about my car. When I explain to them that you don't just go and sit on people cars, he calls me the "N" word, right in front of his kids too!! Can you believe it?

Well, finally, after my car has already been in the body shop for a week, the State Farm estimator finally showed up at the shop last night so they can now order parts and go to work on my car--about $2,000 in repairs (new fender, etc.). I don't know why this shop (M2 in Santa Monica) is no longer a State Farm "service first" shop and that now State Farm has to make the estimates in person, but my guess is that it has to do with State Farm's claims experience in L.A. and not the quality of the work at M2, which has always been excellent in my experience. Hey, if State Farm wants to keep shelling out rental car money because their estimator floats in and out as he pleases, fine. At least they haven't hassled me on this or previous claims.
To add even more, the guy at the shop who tried to move the car this morning apparently flooded the engine, not knowing about rotaries. First time it's happened, and it took someone else to flood it. Fortunately, the service rep is an ex-RX-7 owner and he's committed to getting the car going and moving it personally since he knows the issue.
All this hassle (and deductible money from my pocket) because some sloppy slimeball can't park a vehicle and can't stand up to his or her mistakes.

Hopefully, my 8 will be ready Monday or Tuesday. The shop's work has always been first-rate, so I'll forgive them somewhat for flooding the engine. I haven't spoken to them since last Tuesday, but their mechanic apparently pulled the plugs and is trying to fix the situation. If it still can't start up, however, and has to go to the dealer, that's the shop's problem, not mine. I left it there in perfect driving condition, and that's how I expect it to be when I pick it up. I'm also going to give State Farm an earful if I hit the maximum on my rental car coverage and they try to make me pay for their own appraiser's tardiness.
Meanwhile, I have those amateur detectives O.J. and Robert Blake out looking for the real culprit--the moron who hit me and ran and started the whole fiasco in the first place. :D

Get this--it is now FOUR (that's right, 4) weeks to the day since I dropped my car off at the body shop, and it still isn't ready!
My level of fury cannot be even remotely represented by those angry faces. This is costing me HUNDREDS in extra rental car charges since my insurance coverage has long since capped out. I'm now paying off to Enterprise like a slot machine at the rate of $40 per day while the body shop dicks around. What the hell does it take to get less than $2,000 worth of repair work done? Just a new fender and a new bumper? Sure, the State Farm appraiser took a week to show up, but he finally did three weeks ago. Sure, it took a week for the parts to arrive, but they got there two weeks ago. What the f**king hell has been going on since then?
This amount of time for such a simple repair is absolutely obscene, and I think the parts would still be sitting at the body shop and no work would even have started on my car yet without my having made an intense pest of myself over the last 10 days.
Thanks for reading. I just needed to RANT like an S.O.B.

Well, I guess I should consider myself lucky. Shortly after my last post on April 5th, I finally was able to get my 8 out of the body shop after a full month. Had to make three personal appearances at the shop on three consecutive days, and lose a total of about two days of work, and go back to get a part that they had forgotten to order, but it was finally done, and the work quality is excellent as I expected it to be from having used these guys in the past.
Well, barely ten days later, the body shop chain (M2) was suddenly in receivership. This was one of the biggest and busiest body repair chains in California, and it's been all over the news here because those who weren't lucky enough to get their cars out now have them locked up until the mess blows over. See the links below. Now I know why the car took so long. They were in the middle of toppling over, probably from someone cooking the books.
