old member, NEW OWNER!!

So I found an 8 that I loved and bought it.

I searched every dealer and autotrader listing from NorCal to SoCal, Las Vegas, Arizona, all over... nobody had a black 2004 with low miles, navigation, black, grand touring 6sp with black leather interior.

Until Saturday morning. I found one and drove my Spyder from San Diego to Santa Rosa (one hour north of San Francisco), traded in the Spyder and got the exact 8 I have been looking for. About 18 hours of driving in two days, but well worth it.

It has 27K miles on it and is in great condition. Just thought I'd share. I can already tell why you guys are such fanatics with this car. I love it already. I'll add some pics soon.

Thanks!

Paid $19K. They gave me $5000 for my Spyder with a ton of miles on it.

I am in the process of getting the recalls looked into. I have them all printed out and am seeing the dealer tomorrow. The car was very well maintained. The bumper-to-bumber warranty goes until some time in 2008 and I believe the powertrain was bumped up to 5 years, 60K miles.

The only problem with it is the speakers seemed to be turned off. The radio turns on, and I can tell a CD is playing, but there is NO SOUND. Yes, I drove 600 miles home without the stereo. But I had my iPod, luckily.

Congrats, people think I'm crazy when I insist on traveling long distances to get the exact car I want... but since this is something you will have to live with for several years at least, to me the extra effort is definitely worth it (plus I love road trips).

Congrats!
You chose my favorite colors/options, so I know it looks great!

About the Stereo problem: Do you have the Bose System? Could be the fuse (amplifiers) or a loose harness.

Enjoy!!

I took the 5 the whole way.. I have done the coastal route one before and it's amazing. I'll be taking the 8 to Yosemite this spring.

I found out today that all the TSBs and recalls were done on the car. Sweet. Also, they decided to replace my radio. It will be in on Thurs or Fri.

One weird thing, though. I have been driving about the same style for a few days.. and sometimes I get 70 miles on the first 1/4 tank of gas and sometimes I get about 18. weird.

But I love this car! Can I change my avatar AND screen name??

Most of us hear wouldn't consider having an iPod lucky We love the sound of our Rotary. Thus, most of could careless if we have a cd player or speakers that work, hah.

Welcome to the club, glad you found what the right one.

Congrat's on the new to you car. Enjoy it.
Did you say you're getting 18 miles in the first quarter of a tank of fuel?
Something is wrong. 70 to 50 is more like it in the 1/4 tank range.
If your getting 18 miles per quarter tank you got a problem.

Most likely the tank just isn't filling all the way. Is it hard to top off the tank in some RX-8s?

I'll double check.. maybe I am not filling up enough? As soon as the thing stops, I stop. What do y'all do? What's the fuel capacity? I don't have a user manual. I know.. use the search (but it often sucks)

Sent you PM. You can sign up for an account on the Mazda USA Website and download the 8.5MB PDF Owners Manual if you want.

15.9 gallons. The fuel gauge is very accurate. Once you see that fuel light on. You have about 3 gallons max to get some gas. Considering the 8 is not that fuel efficient, estimate maybe about 50 miles to get some petrol.

Also make sure to slow down as your car is getting near the top of the gas tank, the 8 is notorious for spilling fuel if its running full blast when the auto shut off occurs.

Try rocking the car slightly to "burp" the filling fuel.
It remedies the barfing a little.
