Omgwtf?
Not a clue what just happened... I was out on a quiet cruise through town just a bit ago, when I was suddenly greeted by some sort of flash and bang seemingly from somewhere near the rear of the car (caught a glimpse of the flash from my side mirror). I was a little worried, but it just sounded like a small firework going off, and the car still seemed to be fine in every possible way, so I continued on. A couple of girls in a car next to me, asked me at the next light if my rear tire was ok. Thought maybe I'd just blown it. So, I thanked them, pulled into a parking lot, and checked my pressure all around... everything's fine. Hmm. There's no visible damage of any sort on the car, it still runs as well as ever, tires are fine, exhaust seems fine (thought it might have been a backfire, as well)... I'm totally at a loss here. Could it have been a random backfire, or something?

Nope, I'm bone stock. I was just easing down from a slow cruise, too (light had just changed). Didn't think I'd possibly dump enough fuel for a backfire at such low engine speeds?

Was your parking brake engaged at all, even a little. The girls thought it was a tire, could it have been the parking brake letting up, with a friction induced flame flash? You saw it from your side mirror, and it came from the rear of the car. Just guessing.

BBQ, Indeed.
And I was thinking firecrackers, too... Just seemed like it was up too high to have been from my car... But, it's still running perfectly. No more noises, or anything else out of the ordinary.
