There was a red RX-8 concept with a different front end and lots of interior chrome, then a yellow RX-8 pre-production car (but near final design).

The red car above is a spy shot of a RX-8 undergoing testing, but it is not the same car as the RX-8 concept car from a few years ago. It is much more closely related to the yellow RX-8 that has been making the car show circuit, with slightly different tail lights and rain gutters.

Absolutely right Zoom (I just re-read my post and it couldn't be more confusing, must stop posting after a night at the bar...)

The RX-8 above is the absolute most recent. It is the only known picture taken of this particular car during testing.

However, there are other pictures of different brighter red RX-8's floating around the internet. These are not nearly as recent, and are more out of date than the pictures of the yellow RX-8's.

Could someone post some pictures of the evolution of the RX-8, to clear up my ramblings?

OK, these pictures should clear it up.

Here's the early red RX-8

Here's the yellow car featured in Road and Track (4/02)

Finally, you have the latest red one, which is pictured in the first post of this thread.

If you compare the 3, you'll see that there are slight differences. The yellow car has a more-pronounced snout than the early red one.

From the rear, the early red car has separate "ports" for the exhaust, while the yellow model has the one piece, black plastic with a rotor-shaped foglight at the bottom. The later red one is covered up, but you can see a closer resemblence to the yellow model.

Also, notice the C-pillar on all 3 as well as the location of the 3rd brakelight.

i'm not really sure what is diferent concerning the c-pillar between the three pics but i just noticed the different size of the trunk openings between the rx-evolve and the newest spy pic. i still wish they had kept the "gills" on the hood from the original. made it look meaner.

In the yellow car and the recent red car, the rear door frame on the C-pillar is slimmer than the early red model.

I like the styling on the red one better than the yellow...

Thanks Pork Chop, your post should clear up a lot of stuff for a lot of people using this site.

I liked the gills on the hood too, but imagine the nitemare of rain dripping into the engine area, especially when the car is stationary. Fried electrics, and who knows what else. Besides, without them the design looks more clean, so I guess I don't miss them that much.
