Only Getting 217 miles to a tank max
217 miles is average (350km) never ever really get better no matter how i change my driving style.
I've gone very gentle on the car tried shifting at different rpms, and nothings worked. Hey, I know its a sports car and I'm not saying it should get crazy good fuel mileage but I hear people spouting off about 260-270 average just wanted to know if it's maybe a problem or something.
I do 70/30 city/hwy.
I've been hearing about people getting 300 miles to a tank lately and im looking at my 8 wondering why I haven't had a few trips that have been that good. Even when I've done a road trip to seatle and back I only got 245 miles to a tank and had to fill up midway through the trip.
05 rx-8 gt 6 speed
21100 miles
It's also been using a lot of oil like say 2 1/2 -3 liters every 3000 miles.
Just wondering if im the only one having these issues.
Thanks all.

That's much less than most people get. I'd guess either you have a lead foot (and don't realize it)—or something may be wrong with your engine.
Some people believe that, compared to other cars, RX-8 mileage is all over the map, with most getting around 280-300 miles per tank, a few getting over 300, and a small percentage getting way less, like you. If it was my car, I'd keep going to dealers until I found one that could solve what I would consider an unacceptable problem. If no one could solve it, I'd sell that 8 and buy another. (Although, as I said, I suspect there are many owners out there who drive with a heavy foot—and just don't realize it.)

Typically for every 1/4 tank, you'll get between 50 and 60 miles(non highway), so that's about 200-240 until "E".........depending on how much you get on it, so you're right in the ballpark.........IMHO. I get roughly 220-230 running 93 octane only.

I find 217 miles to be excessively low, I can make my car get 300 miles if I really try. That said I very rarely do because I end up spending at least part of a gas tank flooring it and having fun. My engine does use a little more oil than average as well, you should have that looked into, but you know your engine will never crap out for lack of lube!

Okay............are we defining the "tank" as "E","Light on", or "out of gas"?........."13.3" or "15.9", it makes a big difference.
I can probably go 300 miles if I fill it to the top(and overfill into the neck some) and then run it out to damn near bone dry, but who really wants to do that???????

I don't see any way for you to fill up close to 16 gallons of fuel.
You measure from your last fillup, how many gallons needed to fillup again, measured by how many miles driven in that time.

I don't think it matters. My car gets exactly 50 miles per quarter tank. When the Empty light comes on, I have approx 15 miles before the engine stops running.

i can get 70-75 miles per 1/4 tank tick. if i dont, im generally gunning it too much. which i am.
one of these days im going to stick 2 gallons of gas in my trunk and see how many miles i have when the orange light comes on, to when my car goes out.

Did you change stock tyres? Do you have a big rear spoiler? Do you usually take-off in haste? Do you brake hard a lot? Do you mostly let the revs go beyond 4500 before gearchange? Did you take it easy during break-in?
If you answer "No" to all these question but the last one, then see a dealer. If you answer "Yes" to most then change your driving style, if you answer "No" to the last question, you car is likely screwed up, budget for the extra pain.

I drive mainly stop and go to work (30-45 minutes - 13 miles each way) and I avg 200 miles per tank. I do not think your car is out of the norm from what I've read on this board. I know 300 miles per tank being more than the norm is not true.

I'm always between 115mi and 125mi at the half mark, and around 230~250 when the light comes on. Driving about 2000miles per month at 75% highway (albeit Los Angeles area, so it might be more like city driving or just idling half the time) for the past 4 years in this car, I will say you're not too far off the mark. Perhaps you're climbing hills in low gear often?
