OOPS! Got a BooBoo
Looks like someone clipped me while I was parked. Didn't find it till today when I got her washed. Anyone have a feeling for how much this is going to set me back?

Its not that bad.
and it depends on which shop you go.
I had something like that before, actually much worst than yours, and cost me 800 bux, to fix everything, including buff and repaint.

Keep in mind that prices for body work vary depending on where you live—and how good the body shop is. A really good body shop in the NYC suburbs might charge $1,500 or more, while an "average" shop here might charge half that. You might get that same "high quality" $1,500 job for—I don't know—maybe only $1,000 in Wisconsin. So… when people tell you how much it might cost, take into account where they live.
The body shop may want to not only repaint (or replace and paint) the fender, but also "blend" the paint nearby on the bumper and hood—I don't know for sure.
Considering how easy it is to get a crappy paint match, I'd recommend taking the time to find one of the really good body shops in your area. I search online to see where people go for custom paint jobs and classic car restoration. Also, you can call the closest Porsche or Ferrari dealers and ask them where they send cars for body work. Works for me.
Good luck!

People suck! I was in Home Depot the other day and saw a car bump into another car while they were backing out...and just left. I left a note on teh car that got bumped, and left the license plate number of the jerkoff that hit them and took off...is it just a select few people, or do most people just plain suck?

It looks like it is just the fender. It should'nt set you back that much, maybe 5 or 6 hundred. You may be lucky and find a junked red rx8 and be able to get a descent fender off of it. Try Mazmart.

I think you are right. It doesn't appear that the bumper is damaged at all. Just some abrasion on the VenureShield film. The damage seems to be only on the fender and of course the marker light.

This is my own opinion, but Mazda, any manufacturer part for that matter, will overcharge the hell out of you for a new fender. I suggest if you are going to spend 300+ on the new fender alone, just get yourself some CF or Fiberglass ones, and then paint them. you might actually save a few hundred bucks.

Red is the hardest color to match and blend next to metalics. Pick a reputable shop regardless of price. They will back up their work.
As far as people who hit and run, that is my biggest fear when I park anywhere but home. Lousy jerks with no sense of responsibility.

Got a couple of estimates yesterday, and it looks like about $1000 to fix the BooBoo. One shop wants to replace the entire fender and blend the paint into the door. The other would repair and paint the fender.
Any thoughts on which would be the better way to go?

I'd base my decision on the quality of work each shop seems to do—NOT on what "method" they use (though based on the photos, "blending into the door" does not seem unreasonable). Look at other cars they've done, or are working on. Also, does one shop seem better organized and cleaner than the other? (I've noticed a correlation between quality of work and how organized a place is.) When it comes down to deciding between two shops, usually you'll just have a better "feeling" about one. Also, if the difference in price is only a few hundred dollars, choose the "better" shop, even if it costs a little more. If you're **** about your car—and it looks like you are—saving a few hundred bucks to end up with paint that doesn't quite match will drive you crazy—it's not worth it.
Just my 2¢.

Hey, glassetcher
I have about same damage as you do on my passengerside. probably worse!
I got an estimate couple days ago, They wanted to replace the fender, they didn't wanna bond it, because it was dented in pretty good.
(From what I know, bonding is cheaper than replacing it)
I also have veilside kit in the Front, and kit got damaged slightly, nothing bad (I don't NEED to fix it). But kit is slightly shifted to the right, so I am getting fender replaced, and bumper patched up (fiberglass) and paint all again.
With buying fender from Mazda which is like 300 for a damn fender. I got this deal from car-part.com for 159 tax included. Picking it up tomorrow!!!!
Originally came out (with fender from Mazda) - 835.60
fixing bumper and repaint is - 250.
So If I just fixed the fender it would have been 585.60. (There is an Idea).
My car is black, they are not blending anything.
My friend works for the shop, and they are known for good body shop in PA.
They do dealership bodywork.
With fender I got its going to cost me 680.54 <--- Tax included.
It's going into the shop on tuesday and they said it will take 3 days.
Just an Idea for you!
