You're lucky you got out of it with just seatbelt bruises from the look of those pictures. Glad you're okay. Best of luck parting out your car. Hope you get back on the road with another 8.

Doesn't change the fact that you were driving without insurance... check that; driving 70-75 mph on an off-ramp without insurance. What if you had hit someone?

Foolish at best. Thankfully, no one else was involved. Checked.

As to the explanation as to why only the driver's side airbag went off, my girlfriend's new Camry might be able to answer that one as they could be the same way. In her car there is a sensor on the passenger seat that detects when a passenger is present. If it detects no passenger, it will not let the airbag go off in an accident. The airbag will only deploy in an accident if a passenger is present. I suspect the RX-8 has the same feature.

That has to be one of the dumbest moves I've ever heard! Where did you learn to drive, from Initial-D videos? Real world doesn't work that way. No crap DSC wouldn't help - it's not magic, it can't create traction from nothing when you're going waaay too fast, and the emergency hand brake is a mechanical system which overrides any electronic system. If DSC would even have had a chance, he ruled that out by yanking the handbrake.

You must have paid cash to be driving it with no insurance? Must be nice... I can't imagine how you could possibly afford $30K cash for an RX-8 but can't scrape together $1K for insurance. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Better start learning from this real hard, real fast, because you're going to run out of second chances very soon at that rate.

Good thing no other motorists were harmed. You could have been looking at some big time lawsuits.

I thought it would be worth mentioning that this guy managed to make a car with a 5 star rollover rating, or 92% chance of never rolling over, roll over.

Firstly, I didn't yank anything... I eased it back to assist in reducing my speed. I was obviously going to fast as I approached the right curve. From there it was a timing issue and a soft dirt left shoulder. Anything can flip when velocity meets gravity.
Secondly, you're right about the magic dsc button tho one should not assume anything about anyone. That's what women do. Oh and yes, it was nice and now it's not. Thank you once again for pointing out something I could nott of noticed for myself.

did you flip over because you hit a rail or curb or something? or the hard braking caused you to oversteer big time and lost so much traction you flipped?

Hey! Remember some time back in 05 someone posted that the RX-8 had a better roll-over/flip-over rating than the new ZO6. I think it was on MSN.com but I cant remember. They tryed fliping the RX-8 and the Z06 along with other new cars. The RX-8 got like 8 out of 10 where the ZO6 got 6 or 7 out of 10. But I'm not shure.

do you still have the dashboard? I could use one to install a CarPuter in but dont want to cut up the stock dash.

But I guess someone will take the whole thing with the Nav.

Glad to hear you are ok, bummer on the car, thats gotta rattle ya.

Wow... that car is squashed. You are extremely lucky to walk away from that! What freeway offramp did this happen on, and where is the car now? I might be interested in some of your interior bits.

Wouldn't the brake pedal have been more effective in reducing speed? I still don't get how you would think to ease back the handbrake rather than just stepping on the brake pedal. DSC and ABS are completely voided by the hand brake - it's great for doing slides/drifts if you WANT the back end to come around... if you DON'T want the back end coming around, the hand brake is the last thing you want to touch.

Sorry for giving you a hard time, but that's just mind-boggling. Maybe on your next car, part out the hand brake as soon as you get the car, so you won't have the temptation to use it while driving!

Speaking of parting out - people, we don't allow parts selling/buying/trading here in the regular forum sections. RXEvolV, list your parts in the Parts for Sale section of the forum. Anyone else who wants anything, all you can do is PM him or post in the Parts Wanted section. Any more parts posts here, we'll have to shut the thread down.

So what is the penalty for driving without insurance where you live. I know here they throw the book at you, and it's a serious penalty. Did you just have liability, or none at all. I'm cursious as to your legal problems regarding this. Glad you are ok though.
