Open Recall on RX-8 Carfax

Good evening,

I am considering buying an RX-8. However this particular vehicle that I am looking at as an Open Recall on the CARFAX saying

Manufacturer recall/service bulletin issued
Recall # SSP82
RX-8 CLUTCH PEDAL WARR EXT.

Can anyone explained me what this means?

Thanks!
Afonso

Hey there Afonso... I looked up an old post I made regarding the clutch problem and here it is:

"On certain 2004-2009 RX-8 vehicles, it is possible that the clutch pedal bracket may have a crack, causing an abnormal noise. If the clutch pedal continues to be operated with this condition, the clutch pedal bracket may break, changing the disengagement point of the clutch and possibly preventing the shifting of gears.

If your RX-8 experiences this symptom, please make an appointment with a Mazda dealer to have the vehicle inspected. If the clutch and/or shifting problem is due to the broken clutch pedal bracket, your dealer will replace the clutch pedal assembly free of charge, during the terms of this warranty extension program."

Hope it helps.

This is not a recall (regardless how Carfax may list it) but an extended warranty on the clutch pedal assembly.

So I shouldn't worry about it right? (When buying the car)

Thanks!

Right.................I would make sure the clutch pedal bracket looks good, there are pics to show you where to inspect. If it breaks you'd be covered.

I just bought an 04 with the same issue open. Called my Mazda dealership, they ordered a kit to fix it and I am taking mine in on Monday for the fix. they say it is about a 2 hour job. It sounds like it is a recall to me. I would call a dealership and ask about it...?

PS I am not having any clutch problems or noises...

It's NOT a recall, but some dealerships are clueless, so if yours does.....then use it to you advantage. It's technically an SSP(Special Service Program) and has been posted on this site a few times. I'll go ahead and post it here once again anyway.

Question 2004 mazda rx8

Today I went to come to a stop and my clutch bracket Broke. Call the locale Mazda dealer and they said the recall expired in 2010. And would cost almost $500 to fix. My car only has 62,000 miles on it. Dose anyone have any advise ???? Thanks
