I got an order confirmation number from my local dealer. I wonder how it compares with others here. My number is: 2003014205000002. Anyone else?

I just ordered my 8 today... Sunlight Silver w/ Black leather including the Grand Touring Package. I was the second at the dealership in question to place a down payment/deposit. They did not give me such a number, but they did give me a dealership specific NAD#. I am not sure what it is but they said that they use it to identify my order. How, or should I say where, did you guys get this long number?

How did you get the Order Confirmation Number? Was it emailed to you? Did it come from Mazda or your local dealer?

I ordered online Wednesday morning then followed up with a visit to my dealer on Friday. What forms did you fill out? I filled out one form (basic personal information) and they gave me standard buyer's order form in return (nothing specificly RX8 preorder oriented). They all seemed to know what they were doing, but now that you've mentioned an Order Confirmation Number, I'm concerned the proper forms were not filled out.

What are your experiences?

The first dealer I went to had no clue how to do the preorders. They said they'll be getting a packet on Monday. My understanding is that by the end of the day on Monday, the preorders have to be in to Mazda Headquarters

I have mine, but it is in a file in my desk at work. It looks just like the one you guys have, I'll post it later. I went down personally and they showed me some online system they have with Mazda. They printed out a screen that showed that my order had been confirmed, the priority it had (on a scale of 1 to 998 mine was a 1 ) and the long number that was 200301xx... I do not want this screwed up, so I told them I really wanted to see something. They were great. Of course I was dealing with the dealership's owner, who is a younger guy and definitely computer savvy. Don't leave this to chance guys - push them. Mazda told me that their confirmation e-mails won't go out until the 14th. Then it will be too late if you don't have something in writing - better yet, something official from Mazda NA.

 

I asked my dealer for an order confirmation number. I remember when the Miata build to order thing came out Mazda said you could track your car with it. Very cool!

I didn't even get a print out from Irvine Mazda. Mine is all hand written. I would think the confirmation number would come when the order is actually submitted to Mazda. It is my understanding that they are submitting the 10+ orders Monday morning 1/13/03.

My dealer said I should be able to tack my as well. He knew he could but would get conformation on me being able to track the car as well. The salesman who wrote the order is a nice guy and said if I couldn't he would periodically and let me know whats going on. I imagine that system will not be up for some time. I was told the building of the cars was not slated until April.

If I find anything out I will post it.

I was thinking when I first got it that the first part was the date,
ie,
2003 year
01 month
10 day
04 model year
and then the 00003 - hoping that meant the third car ordered, but as I look at the other numbers, my "theory" falls apart at the 7th or 8th digit.

Anyone know what all this means?

I got an Email from Mazda (after my inquiry) and they said that within 30 days of my order I should start getting progress reports directly from Mazda as to the progress of my car.

Where can you track the car online?

I will get my number tomorrow (as per the dealer), so I'm curious where I can track the car from....

 

What was the time frame from when your order was submitted and when you received that email. would you mind posting the contents of that email in here?? editted if need be. Also does anyone know if we will be able to call MNAO customer service and check to see if the order was submitted (read properly) before we get the email? (incase we don't get the email )

I finally got my "Request ID" from my dealer it is: 2003014080700005

I don't know about you but he also said there was another one that was comfirming my order is is the same number except a 6 at the end so it would be: 2003014080700006

I don't think the numbers are just for the RX-8 preorder, if you went in and asked to factory order any other mazda vehicle you would probably get a number that would fall in the same range.

Also my dealer said that the first number had a date on it of April 1st, 03. He thought it might be the date that they would build the car, he wasn't exactly sure though. How long does it take a car to be built from start to finish, then once finished how long (on average) would it take it to get to the states?

 

My dealer said production would not begin till April so thats a good guess on the first set of numbers. As for how long it takes to build I would guess 4 days (truly a guess) from when the order hit the line until a finished car drove out under its own power. The Mazda has to stockpile enough for a load which will include other car types on the line. As for shipping it takes a Month for a ship to leave Japan and arrive on the East Coast (Jacksonville FL is the east coast port). I don't know shipping times to the west coast but it would have to be a couple of weeks shorter.

So figure a cars built in April will be on a boat the month of May and begin distribution to dealers end of May first of June.

Just got my number from the dealer- 2003014195900054. he says I'm the first order at this dealership, but he didn't have any info on tracking except to say I should be able to.

 

Would that be Irvine Mazda??? Who is your salesman?
