Just got some more info from my dealer. He faxed me a form called a Vehicle Request Change. It contains all of the ordering information for the vehicle including the buyers name address etc. It also shows the Request ID number (that's the number that I posted previously), but it also has an Order reference number 200304000925, the dealer believes this is the actual tracking number for the vehicle. I emailed MNAO regarding this but haven't gotten a response yet.

My dealer says I have until the 23rd to make changes. Not sure if this is a Mazda wide deadline or not.

Numbers

You guys have a internal request ID number that will turn into a VIN as your car is scheduled to be built. You all will get emails, provided you gave one to your ordering dealer, that track the cars progress. The first allocation (this January) are April production and will begin to arrive, GIVEN THAT NO BOAT SINKS (poor volvo!), NO TRAIN DERAILS, NO TRUCK BREAKS DOWN, ECT.. about the second week of June. Central US cars arrive CA and are on a train to a inlandport like Dallas then move to dealers via truck. SPREAD THE WORD...May production will be ordered in Feb., June production in Mar.. This will be the end of direct consumer order and the remaining cars will have to bought from dealer ordered stock units...i.e. dealer taste in options etc.. The first three months get to be built by the buyers...that's trying hard to deliver exactlly what you want!

confirm numbers

My first post! Being a programmer, we use a similar code. The 2003 is obvious - current year. Next 3 digits likely day of year - easy in January - 014 is 14th day of the year. Next 3 are likely a dealer code or something. Last 5 or 6 with the 0's are likely the dealer's sequential RX-8 order number. Just my opinion. Don't have mine, yet.

The 7th thru 11th digits are the Dealer number as stated earlier.

Finally got my number today. As I read through this thread, I started worrying, as my number is much shorter than the others. Then I read the post about the reference ID, and that is what I have. Mine is 200304000623. My wife made the deal, and did NOT give my email address (I'm sure he never asked, either). So, if I email MNAO, will they update my email address onto the order? If so, what do I need to ask exactly?

I sent Mazda USA an email and asked questions about the confirmation numbers, delivery times, etc. Received an email reply yesterday, some snippets:

"In regards to your inquiry about tracking your order, Mazda will send you periodic updates on your order status. First, you will receive confirmation that your order has been submitted by the dealership (as you have noted you have received). Next, you will receive confirmation that the factory has received the order (usually within 30 days of last confirmation). Next, the VIN# for the vehicle that you ordered will be assigned and forwarded to you (typically 2-3 months after the factory accepts the order.

Proceeding the VIN# assignment, you will receive an e-mail when the factory has completed production of your vehicle (usually within 30 days of production beginning after the VIN# is assigned. At that time the vehicle will begin its shipping to your local destination port. From that point, it will usually take 30-45 days until the vehicle is released from port and is en route to your dealer. You will receive e-mails when the vehicle is released.

These are all of the tracking information that will be available to
you. Tracking the vehicle day by day to tell exactly where the vehicle is or what is being done during production is not possible. You can also check confirmations and updates at your logon site. You will receive an e-mail with your second confirmation that will contain a link to your site and how to access it."

Concerning the Order Number:

"In regards to your inquiry about a "pattern" in your confirmation
number that would indicate a build order as received by dealerships, there is no such pattern. This program secures an order for you, but unfortunately, can not indicate what exact number of RX-8 yours will be as received by a dealership. Certainly, yours will be part of the first production RX-8 vehicles, but due to varying configurations and build times, Mazda can not confirm that yours, regardless of when your order was placed at the dealer, will be received in order that they were placed through the dealer."

Concerning Delivery:

"The delivery date for the vehicles is expected to be later than May. At this time, it is estimated that delivery will be in July at the
earliest."

Hope this is helpful.......

And what about the Canadian orders? My understanding is that we will not be able to ever order the car until March! What is that, a September delivery date?

Replying to myself....

I went ahead an emailed the rx8order address asking if they could update my order with my email address. I received this reply 13 minutes (!!) later:

Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you. Congratulations on your decision to order the all-new RX-8! This addition to the rotary tradition is sure to be an instant classic. I assume that you placed your order online before visiting the dealer. Your order information should remain there and this will generate a response to you, by e-mail, automatically when the dealership has submitted your order (typically within 30 days). If you have any concerns, you may contact the dealership with which you placed your order to confirm that they have all of the information that they need.

Followed by some more flowery language...so now I'm wondering how many who ordered within the first month's allocation have NOT received this automated order confirmation email. I hope I'm not the only one who has not!

No confirm # to date (1/23)

I have not received a confirmation # email. I'm emailing my sales manager. But I'm NOT worried about it!

I also have not yet received my email from Mazda confirming my order. I have only received the response from Mazda that my online order was received and they directed me to contact my dealership. Two days later (Jan 10) I went to my dealer and finalized my order. Well actually they took all my information down and said they'd place the order later that day.

I do not have any confirmation that the order was actually placed. I called the dealer a week later and they said they placed the order and I should wait for the confirming email. I guess I just wait for the "within 30 days" duration to go by. It's frustrating.

Received order#

I received my order # from my salesman. it is 200304000544.
He says they have no place to enter an email address on the order.
I'll email rx8orders to see if they can add my address to it.

Hmm. My order had a place for an email addy. I'm sure it's just a small flaw of the individual dealership.

i think we are all in the same boat. the 2nd emails from mazda confirming your order from the dealer do not seem to have gone out yet. i haven't got one yet either and got the response from madza that b-nez got as well as the same b@#$*hit response from my dealer that kwolfman got. it seems we just need to wait longer. aaaaaarrrrrrgghh. i have been waiting for 3 years why does one month seem so friggin long?

Order Number from my dealer

I just got my number from the dealer. 2003014201600015. I don't know much more but my dealer says I am Priority #1.
I'm getting Nordic Green with brown leather.
I think the combo isclassic. Titanium is nice, but not distinctive enough. Too many grey sports cars out there.

added email address to order

My salesman was unable to get the email address to Mazda with my order. I emailed rx8orders; William Zdan, who has been very helpful with all of my other inquiries to rx8orders, offered to help my dealer get in touch with district folks to learn how. My dealer later emailed me back saying he had my email address with my order now! So there is a way if your saleperson was unable to get your email address attached to the order! They also gave the familiar answer to the 6CD question: RX-8 accessories are
definitely still under development. "There will be an announcement made in March regarding this. Further, I have forwarded your comments to our Product Planning department for their review."

I ordered my RX-8 on 1/13 and I have not gotten my number yet either. It is making me a little nervous.....wondering if the dealership has even submitted the order to Mazda yet.

If they screwed something up and did not get something in to them by now I am going to have to kill some people over there.

I just e-mailed rx8orders@mazdausa.com about it. I expect some bullshit fluffed up response from them similar to the above posts that dances around the issue and does not include my number.

Guess I'm going to have to go over to the dealership tomorrow and smack some folks around! :D

RE: Order Confirmation Follow-Up

It's been a month now since the first post of someone receiving their confirmation number. I was just wondering if anyone with a confirmation number has received a follow up e-mail from Mazda. I believe the next step would be documentation that the factory received the order.

Also, I have read that Mazda would be sending out "goodies" throughout our wait. Has anyone received anything (e-mails, snail mail, etc.) from Mazda?
