Ouch!! $1,200 dollar clutch
Ouch!!, took my 04 8 in to check as to why the engine is shaking when the AC is on and they also said that my clutch is going.
Mazda say's that they want $1,200 dollars to replace the clutch.
I have 40k miles on it. I guess im going to have to cave in.
Is clutch replacement for the RX8's really cost that much anywhere else if replaced by the Mazda dealer.

that is pretty expensive. You should be able to get an upgraded aftermarket clutch + install at a GOOD tranny shop for less than that.
OEM clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, TOB should be fairly cheap to get anywhere that is not the dealer also.
Dealer prices are pretty much always through the roof.
I did an entire tranny replacement ~1100 which in cluded labor on my tiburon.

Yes, they said that the motor mount was fine. They said that it was because of the after market Typhoon intake that is causing it to lose a little bit of rpm causing the engine to shake. How does that sound to you guys?
I asked them if they can increase the rpm a little to compensate the shaking of engine since the motor mounts were ok.
They will also be doing my recalls even though I have not yet received the recall letter from Mazda.
You guys are right. Im going to get me an aftermarket clutch and have a good transmission place install it. Definately will probably be way cheaper then the Mazda dealer that I went to.

Normally when dealerships blame aftermarket intakes it's just because they're looking for a scapegoat but there MIGHT be a little bit of truth to this if you have the 1st gen. (key word = might)

Will take a look at the intake when I get my car back from the dealer tomorrow. I bought the car used so the aftermarket intake and exhaust was already installed on the car.

Protocol for 1,200 bucks you can upgrade your clutch and buy a new flywheel and then have it installed at a regualr transmission shop....and thenn still have enough for a nice steak dinner with the mum

Thats a gen 1, the idle issues can be sorted by adding a screen on the intake runner. I had that one and i removed it once it caused my engine to start stalling. Promptly sold it on the forums to some canuck..

Heyyyy there's another thread on here about this thats recently updated. i have had the rough idle with ac on forever.... even got me a remanufactured engine.... Damnit.... and its still there!#@!#@!
So... maybe clutch... hrrrrrm
Wait... you made that other thread. HEY KEEP IT TOGETHER!#@!#@!#!@# [put somethin in the other thread about the clutch :P
I'm already suscribed to enough threads....

Protocol: either put in the screen or look for another intake. (Racing beat one is pretty nice)
PhOtic: Mine is going in this week (hopefully) for that rough idle problem. I'll let you know what the dealership says. If they even try to blame my RB intake, I'm gonna go

a bad clutch wont give you a bad idle. if you clutch is going it will slip in gear. you will know. did they check your clutch pedal adjustment?
rule #1 the dealership will rip you off and lie to you.
when in doubt see rule # 1

ahh....... you never complained about the clutch.
If it's not slipping your fine. Sure maybe the guy before abused it and it's worn, big deal.
All clutches get worn, if it ain't btoke don't fix it it.
You will know if you have a bad clutch.
There is no correlation between a worn out clutch and a bad idle.

I'd still saw off my left arm and go to ford then take it to AAMCO for prolly 1/2 that.
Never, under any circumstance, take your car to AAMCO. I don't care if yur transmission falls out in their parking lot.
That would figure with Ford's pricing though. Couldn't hurt to maybe check a few other dealerships i suppose...

Your dealership is shitting you, theres NO ******* way it would cost 1200 bucks for that. It happens ONLY if they sell everything at MSRP to you, which is bullshit, and no one does that. with that price you can get some very GOOD Flywheel + Clutch + Installation cost.
If you have Version one, hurry up and sell it. I had Version 1 (the one u have) and Im using version 2 now.
with Version one you can smooth the idle out by adding a screen after the Air filter. Where is your Stock Air box ? You can take the screen from the stock air box and put it in. but theres an issue with airflow and the results would be your engine might just shut off while going high way
Version 2 fixed all problems, with minor power gain (no intake give you any signficant gain anyway, they're all the same if not worst)
I suggest you to hurry up and sell it for a few bucks. and get something else more decent (like Typhoon Version 2, RB Unit, AEM , or Mazdaspeed)

A good way of testing your clutch is going up a hill in a high gear, and stamping on the pedal quickly. If the rpm needle rises quickly a little, then falls back, your clutch is on its way out. If your clutch is indeed dying, this would be the perfect time to upgrade it and throw in a lightened flywheel while they're in there! I think ACT has bundle deals on clutch/flywheel. You can easily buy both and have them installed for under 1200. The key is not going to the dealer. Ask around and find a good tranny shop around you, and ask them for a quote.

A bad clutch is usually pretty obvious. If you have not experienced any of the following, then the clutch is fine.
1. lack of resistance when stepping on the pedal
2. "catch point" for the clutch seeming way off (catches when it hits the floorboards)
3. extremely difficult to get into 1st gear
These are usually the first things you notice. And if they are happening - you notice. Any of 'em familiar?
And that is way too much for the work. Stealership!!

Can anyone tell me if this kit is a good price and if this clutch is good for daily driving? I'm just trying to get an idea of how much it would cost.
