That gage really had me wondering yesterday. It was going below the E mark, so I limped it to my favorite local station, some 5 miles away, wondering if I should have hit the closest one instead. She only drank 13.84 gallons (I don't pump past the first cutoff point). Shucks, could have gone another 30 miles easy. I don't push it to the limit - no need - but I was starting to wonder yesterday if I inadvertently was...

the owner's manual does say to fill up at 1/4 tank. ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
more importantly, autocrossers have reported fuel starvation on the course at just under 1/4 tank of gas. so if you plan on taking any long hard curves at any speed, it would probably be good to be above 1/4 tank. of course, to get a turn like that on the street, you'd most likely be on your way up or down a mountain.![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I'm getting my car corner weighed tomorrow, and the gas guage will be right around the 1/2 mark (which is how I plan to autocross).
this thread was interesting, because it implies that the empty mark means there is about 2.5 gallons of gas in the tank, so 'half' probably means there is 9.2 gallons in the tank ((15.9-2.5)/2+(15.9-2.5))
then with gas weighing around 6.25lbs/gallon I'll be able to estimate how much the car would weigh with a full tank too. (i.e., add another 41.9lbs=6.25*(15.9-9.2))
is the gas tank behind the rear axle, or does it straddle the axle?

I just ran through my very first tank in my newly bought RX-8 and put about 13.5 gallons in it. I'm so damn happy with this car I'm already down half a tank....anyone else get up in the middle of the night just to drive it when they first got theirs?
