Owner to Owner Wave

Owner to Owner Wave
Like many on this board, one of the main reasons I purchased this car is because it is so unique. Purchasing an RX-8 includes membership in an exclusive club. There is nothing like the warm, fuzzy feeling you get when passing another RX-8 and exchanging a friendly, "good choice" wave.
My only complaint, however, is that the majority of RX-8 owners in this area do not understand this unwritten code of ethics.
So, I say..."RX-8 OWNERS SHARE THE LOVE...AND WAVE!"

There's a particular kind of person who waves back. You wouldn't guess it from reading these forums, but there's a lot of people that have 8's and just look at them as fun sporty coupes, not as some amazing machine. It should be added to drivers manual under "code of ethics".

I drove to the post office yesterday afternoon and on the road I turned on to for the post office was a red RX-8 driven by some woman. She started honking and waving at me all excited, so I smiled and waved back. She turned around apparently because when I came out of the post office she was parked next to me all eager to talk about our cars. LOL
She said she couldn't believe she saw another one in our area since it is rural and all.

the first week i had my car, i took it back to the dealer so they could address the issue of no key for the wheel locks (apparently it was taken out during prep and misplaced), and while i was waiting another 8 pulled in the service bay for an oil change, and the lady got out and asked if i was in the other 8 in the service bay. i said yeah, and we started talking about the car. and how she had an FC before she got her 8 that she drove until the engine died at 275k miles, and that she loved the rotary engine so much, she just had to get another one, so she got an 8...and had put 33k miles on it in the first year.

I try and look at other 8 drivers-- but they surely don't like to make any sort of contact...I tried honking, waving but I guess Doc is right-- some folks are just inattentive. The only time someone acknowledged me was when some guy in a Black 8 pulled up next to me and honked...I was parked and was too busy doing something else, so by the time I looked up he was driving away and I was frantically trying to roll my window down to wave... HA HA HA

I do the light flash thing but yes...normally I get a COLD shoulder. So far only one 8 owner got it. I also waved at a RX7 and he waved back.
Other than that...it seems people think I'm crazy or something, lol.

Glad to see I'm not the only one out there waving. This thread came about because I finally got a return wave this morning. So if you were driving a red 8 down Hwy P near Burlington, WI and waved at a black 8...THANKS!

The day I bought my car - the best thing that happened was to end up alongside another Winning Blue RX-8 headed north out of Baltimore, MD on the interstate and exchange a friendly nod and thumbs-up (young guy with a carbon-fiber hood). Actually, I cut him off by accident, then felt double-bad to have cut off my first ever sighted-in-the-wild RX-8 while driving my own. I pulled right one lane and dropped back and he *still* gave a friendly greeting.
I've passed a yellow RX-8 in town a couple of times - he always flashes lights and waves (and I do the same), but neither of us has ever doubled back to catch the other.
BunnyGirl seems exceptionally personable. Maybe she could conduct some kind of seminar.

While I am driving my WRX people wave, when I am on my motorcycle people wave (regardless of what bike they are driving), but when I am in my 8 the response is much different, people rarely wave. Not sure why this is, It does appear that the individuals buying the 8s vary in demographics. We have everything from younger to older individuals, people who can barely afford the car as well as those that can afford almost any car. I probably get more attention from those not driving 8s, simply because they like the car and rarely see them.

I dont see too many 8's when i drive i drive my 8, and when i do see one, i wave and flash my lights. Occassionally i get a wave back but more often than not, i get ignored. I own a jeep wrangler and its rare that i dont get a wave back from other wrangler owners....
