That totally sucks. Mazda had a problem with their white paint coming off about 10 years ago. I hope this isn't another problem in the works. When you got your car did it have many miles on it? The reason I ask is you wouldn't believe how many cars get small and sometime large amounts of damage done to them on the lot and they fix them without telling the person who buys the car.

I, too, thought it didn't look like the '8. so I took the photo out to my car and compared, and shore 'nuff it is. Extreme close-up. I suggest everyone here carefully examine the same areas on their cars to see if anyone has even the beginnings of a paint problem here. It's right up against the seal at the bottom of the tail light assembly. I looked at mine carefully and it's still good as new. But if 1 or two others on this forum see the problem we've got a serious problem.

RX-EVolved, can you describe your car-care practices? Do you wash/wax your own car or have someone do it for you? What products have you applied to that area? Can you see similar peeling anywhere else? This totally sux and I feel bad for you. Let us know what your dealer says.

Huh?

That does not look like the 8's taillight. You'd see clear and then a round red light, right? That is an angular red light piece. Hmmmm.....not sure. That paint job looks old or very dirty. Tough to say.

It looks like an 8. The pic is real close. That angled red tail light is bottom part of the outside light. Also, there is the glare from the clear cover. It is hard to see because the pic was taken so upclose.

What we are seeing is the inside of the tail light assembly. It appears that the bumper is rubbing up/rubbed up against the tail light. His car may have been bumped when parked.

I remember some other owner having cracks in the rear tail lights. This may be related.

Folks, it is an 8. Take a copy of the pic out to your car and compare side-by-side. The problem is, it's so close-up you can't recognize it. The red lens on the left is your side lens reflector; the width left to right of the red lens in the pic onscreen is about 3/4 inches, in real life it's the quarter inch thickness of the side red reflector. That angled line down from the red lens is a manufacturing artifact that is really there if you look close. The paint deformity is the bottom seal of the tail light assembly where it meets the body of the car.

What we need to do is get off this guy's case and take a careful look at the problem. He has brought an important issue to our attention. I doubt only one '8 in the entire Mazda inventory is suffering peeling paint, so let's get together and figure out what's going on.

The paint look more like a flaw in installing the tail light which might be scratching the paint than the flaw of the paint. Either that, or someone is trying to steal the nice looking taillight

ps: we need better pic with different angle to analyze :D

Just a recommendation for posting pics in the future; I'd recommend including your finger in the picture and point to the defect.

Helps people find the problem in the picture and gives everyone a sense of scale that would otherwise be lacking.

OMG... ALLRIGHTY THEN!!! MORE PIX 2COME TOMORROW.

I've had my car since 06/30. I wash it once a week with Mothers. Waxed once so far with WaxShopProd liq(NO buffer) Meguiars detail mist to finish. I was drying it off yesterday right after a spin cycle when I noticed the paint just peeling off with one stroke of an art chamois. You might imagine my reaction(FELL FRIGGIN OVA!)

I did install a fat 12" precision dynam sub in the trunk... bad vibrations maybe?

That statement is peculiar, 6/30? I thought the first person to take delivery in the US was on Friday, 7/11 in Lakewood, Washington state?

ok...I can see that

Ok....yea, I can see what part of the light you mean. I mean why would the person lie about something like that when he is an actual 8 owner? Sorry for questioning it...just looked weird!
