paint scratches
#2
You've got my curiosity aroused. How do you know how easily the finish is scratched? I drove one car for 3 years prior to this 8 and it never had a scratch on it. There were 3 rock-chips on the nose of the hood but the finish wasn't scratched. What is happening to your 8 to account for the scratches? What are you comparing it to?
Cutting to the chase; coatings expertise is a field unto itself and within that field there are standards. It's doubtful that any manufacturer is going to stray too far from what other manufacturers are doing with respect to the observed standards for their coatings. So with that in mind, it seems unlikely that the 8 will scratch more easily (or less easily) than any other car of similar cost within the same model year.....

Just been finding some scratches here and there it seems to get swirl marks easily. Also, if someone parked next to me taps my door, it seems it has a bigger chance of leaving a mark than my previous car. I had my other car for 3 years too and it seems less susceptible to scratches/dents. Again perhaps its my imagination.
Thanks for the reassurance that coating has standards.
