Anyone got any pics of a RX8 with parking sensors fitted??

I've got a 192 on order and I'm wonderin whether or not to have them fitted as I'm worried they may spoil the look of the car

But if they are discreet I will have them fitted.

 

i am also looking to install some parking sensors on the rear


could anyone post some pics of the rear with the sensors on?

i am planning to DIY it so i want to see the positioning of them

Why do you need parking sensors? Just learn how to judge your car. It isnt hard. What did you do before the existed? If you need parking sensors to park then you shouldnt drive at all. Especailly a car as small and nimble as the 8.

 

I guess we aren't all as precise as you...

i was trying today to park (reverse) and i was looking from the outer mirrors left and right... i was so stressed from the day and i wasn't looking from the centre mirror and i knocked on a sign. probable it will cost me about $300.

Parking sensors are not for those who don't know how to drive. you may say that the same "theory" applies to DSC ABS airbags and all that safety staff cars are loaded nowadays...

 

I have them fitted, but no picture. They look OK if painted in car color.

parking sensors would just make ur life easier. You telling me if you had the option to get the sensors on ur car u wouldnt? If the dealer said "we'll throw in parking sensors for free" you would tell em "naw their for people who cant park" yahhhhh right!

 

I wouldn't say they're for people that can't park, but I certainly wouldn't take them.

 

A parking sensor I'd like would be a hidden, RF or IR transciever which would tell me when I'm about to scrape the living hell out of the engine undertray.. like I've allready done

I can tell where the damn concrete bumper is... but not how TALL it is (unless it's bleeding obvious that it is half a foot tall....)

Other than that... nope, don't need 'em.

Obviously the amount of blindspot differs for people of different height, I could really use those parking sensors, I don't remember ever parallel parked since I got the car.

 

Mine came with them already fitted front and back, it's not too bad, though they'd probably look better if painted white (would it affect their performance, though?)

 

My, we've come a long way from fender curve feelers havn't we. I could use those sensors on my car too.

I have recently bought a new RX8 with dealer fitted parking sensors. They do not work properly. The outboard ones are pointing down at an angle due to the curve of the bumper. Therefore, the sensors give false readings from ground reflections.

The best way to test sensors is to tape a small piece of sponge (bath sponge type) over them one by one to find out the faulty sensor. With the outer two taped up, the system works perfectly for objects near the centre of the car.

I have sent the car back to the dealer twice now, and they are trying to fob me off that this is the way it works. I'm not buying it, as I'm never able to gauge whats behind me, and I would be better off not having them at all! For the best part of £300 quid, I think they are appauling.

Not sure what else to do now, other than ask for my money back, and live with a cr@p system!

Depends on where you are parking? For the garage, I hang a tennis ball from a piece of string on the ceiling, and positioned it so that when the car is 1" from the wall, the tennis-ball hits the windshield. That way I can get the most amount of garage space for other uses.

If I ever get around to installing a small PC in the trunk (long term plan), then a web-cam out the back of the car will definitely be in order.

When parking out on the streets in a tight spot, awlays bring the wife so she can hop out and act a s a parking guide

 

I have my mom do that to if she's with me, generally when those concrete things are in front of the parking space. When I get to work I will pull into my space and put the brake on and then get out and circle the car to see how much space I have on either side of me and make sure I'm not sticking out of my space. I then readjust if necessary. I won't park on the street unless it is a very, very low traffic residential street and then only for a very short time. I also don't know how to parallel park so I make every effort to avoid it.

What I want is something to keep other idiots that park near you from getting too close or hitting you with their doors! Walking to my car last night (parking garage nearly empty) I see this lady get in her car. She opens the door, sits down, and then pushes the door even further open so that it hits the side of a brand new car!!! Meanwhile she manages to get in the car without having to push the door open that far. Why did she have to give the door a shove after she was already in? I hope she never parks near me!!!

I went over and looked at the car she hit after she drove off and there was a scuff and a dent in the door in the approximate location it would have been hit at, so I gave the person the information on the car (plate number, type, et cetera) that hit it and my extension for work if he had any questions. I stuck it under his wiper which sets off the car alarm, but hitting it didn't?

I'd be really pissed if I were this guy because by the date on the trip permit the car would have been purchased on Sunday. Poor car.

Parking sensors in the front? I got four mounted on the rear bumber. My sensors automaticly activates when I put it in reverse...

I saw some guy in a huge lifted F-250 pull up to a girl in a celica on the highway, tailgate her at about 20 inches (no not exagerating), then pull over into the next lane next to her and swerved into her trying to run her off the road. all because she was trying to pass someone at around 75 so it's not like she was going slow, she was just in his way. sometimes I wish I had some kinda laser thingy to blow out some ppl's tires.
