Question Parts

I may be a bit crazier than some but even the least missing part on my Eight bothers me enough to want to fix it.

The engine cover, as all already know, mounts by force fit against two positioners at the back of the cover and then two prongs can be forced down into two sockets at tthe front of the engine area. Each of these "sockets" has a rubber bushing. One is missing on my car. Not a big deal, cover still stays in place, but it bothers me.

Is there a source for parts like this, other than my dealer?

Anyone else have this part go missing? Not sure if I lost it or my dealer,

Thanks

I haven't really inspected the bushings but, possibly a hardware store?? Just a thought.

Funny you ask but this weekend I found one that had been dropped in engine compatment during the build and retrieved it. Send me an email and will mail it to you.

I took my 8 into the dealer before Christmas for an oil change. It came back with three problems, one of which was a missing rubber bushing on the rear of the engine cover.

My dealer replaced the part for free. I saw the paperwork and it is about $7.00 for a pair (they gave me both).

I think the bushings disappear because people think the engine cover lifts straight up from both the front and rear. It doesn't take much force to pop one on or off.

Why do you not want to get your parts from the dealer? They are the best source for most anything you could need (especially stuff that cheap). You could try Mazmart, they have multiple 8s that they are parting out but I dont think they sell items in that price range.

Mazmart has the first three wrecked 8's in the country. The *Tampa Dealer* test drive car, hit in the rear. A HARD hit front wreck from Texas and a left side, both door hit from the Atlanta area. They will probably wait until the large ticket items, fronts, drivetrains and the like, go first before parting out the smaller pieces. They also bought the Acosta motor from the 3 rotor conversion and have at least one Motor for dyno testing from Mazda. They are looking toward the rebuilder and driveline swap markets first and when the cars become more plentiful, should be an excellent source of used parts.

Those bushings seem to have a mind of their own. Canzoomer lost one too during dealer service (now replaced by dealer).

Maybe they will be the subject of the next urban legand.

This forum is so great for the little things, as well as the big issues....

I checked and sure enough the right front bushing on mine was missing. Looked down in the engine compartment and there is was lying in the plastic tray under the air cleaner. My 8 was on the lot for a couple of months before I bought it with 222 miles. No doubt the bushing came off one of the many times the salesman showed off the engine.

Yep, I lost one also. My dealer is ordering me a new one, free of charge. Sounds like a fairly situation. At least it's a free replacement!

One wonders why, on an engine that burns oil and needs to have oil added on a more frequent interval, that they would put a cover over the oil cap in the first place. Maybe it was a Wednesday Sake night when that little idea was first floated. Strange.

Just a hint I found very helpful. I put a small amount of white grease on the four rubber bushings to make removal and install of the cover easier. Just a thin coat is all you need. Really helps.

Just found out - those bushings have been redesigned. They are larger in diameter now. Looks like you folks are not alone in having problems loosing them.
