PCM Flash

Ok guys, i have been searching the forums for a long time now trying to find the latest PCM flash. I dont know which one it is and i have a sticker on my door that says "PCM flashed in 2005."

Can someone do me a solid and just tell me 2 flashes...

1: The one that fixed the oil delivery problem that claimed several S1 engines...

2: The latest one that mazda put out.

Thanks in advanced. And again, i did search through countless of threads. Especially the one that was like 100+ pages. Reason is mine is a 2004. The guy before me bought it (first owner) in 2005, so if the fix was in 05 then my engine wasn't subjected to terrible oil treatment and might last as long as the new ones. The guy only drove it 2.2k miles a year since 05.

The last one is apart of a Recall. Look for the MSP16 sticker. Or, check with your dealer and see if all recalls have been applied. That shouldn't cost you any service charges.

The first big reflash and recall was 4206f, in the summer of 2006. That was the one where they did a vacuum test and replaced engines that flunked. That's also when they declared that dealers would not rebuild the engines, but that Mazda would supply rebuilds from a shop they set up in the US. It's my understanding that this flash was aimed at both improved oil metering and flooding. If your car did not have too many miles before this one, you should be in good shape. Mine had about 3000 miles...I'll let you know in ten years if it was done soon enough.

MSP16 was a couple of years later.

I had mine flashed in Nov to make sure I was up-to-date (also didn't show as having MSP16 done) and I have the N3Z2EU calibration in the car now.

If you have a sticker on your hood, on the front left of center that says MSP16, you have the latest ecu calibration. If you do not, it is possible that the last Recall has not been applied. The service desk can look up your VIN number to see if the Recall has been applied. If it hasn't, they will do it for free. If the look it up and it has been applied, say thank you and drive away.

It's free. Just to make sure, bring along a copy of the TSB that Al posted for you. The first page says that they're supposed to do it for any RX-8 that comes into their shop. I think telling them that you want to check on this goes easier if you hold up the TSB and ask if it's been done.
