Ya door dings are shitty. Try waking up to go to work and finding out some jealous ****** took a sledgehammer and clawhammer to all the glass and every panel and peice of plastic on your car and slicing the leather.
To top it off at the body shop I found out the tow truck drivers had flooded my engine by repeatedly starting it and turning it off cold. There was another $700.
I might think this was BS if someone else wrote it, so, heres the proof.
We found them weeks later. Total retribution for my 8 and my buddies car, $42000 (canadian). 8's were $42000 base here new.

Park Into The Wind.
Five months of 8 ownership under my belt, and no dings. Here's a tip that comes from my aviating background. If it's windy, park into the wind. (Look for a flag, or trees, or even trash blowing across the parking lot for wind direction.) If you do otherwise -- park with the wind at your back, then a car that parks next to you will have its door blown open into your car. Just a tip.

heh, wat i do is i find a niceee car that obviously someone loves "takes care of" such as a clean washed lexus sedan, 350, g 35, it's gota look cleannnn. then i park next to it you will typically be safe =D. avoid SUVs, trucks and beaters... they will beat u up. at work i park next to a 350z.

LOL! This happens to me sometimes, too!
Just the other day, I was parked in my usual spot at work in the very back of the parking lot. I come out at the end of the day, and there's this gigantic van parked next to me even though there was, like, six open spaces between my car and the next one. I was, like, WTF?
Luckily, since I was in the last spot, I was able park partially on the dashed lines at the end of the lane, so, even if the jerk open up their passenger side door, I don't think that they would have been able to hit me.
Also, if you park in the back of the lot, I would suggest NOT taking up two parking spaces. I've been tempted to do that myself, but I strongly suspect that's just going to make you more of a target, 'cause some idiot kid is going to go "Oh, who's this ***** who thinks he's better than everyone else and can take up two spaces?". Then they key your car.

I was pissed because i live in a condo so, we just have a parking lot and no drive ways. I came out to my car on afternoon to find a good sized dent in my passenger side door with a large scuff mark. I knew it had to have been my neighbor because we have assigned parking spots. He denied the whole thing and since i didn't see it happen there was nothing i could do.

wow hearing this is really scary to hear, I don't have a drive way, had a garage but parents turned it into a room. I just got the car so right now we are parking it in the backyard, it has alot of room. But its a pain to open the locked chain and the gate then get back in the car and close it again every night, but now iam considering it.

Well, as the title says, people suck. Got a decent dent on my passenger side (dark out, so no pic for now). There's a decent vertical line which makes it seem like it's probably from a car door. Wasnt there when I went into the store and was there when I came out. Only got 2 things and knew what I wanted so was a quick trip. Saw 2 people getting in the car next to me when leaving (they were in a handicapped spot with not tag, plate and neither seemed to have a problem). Was one of those chrysler van/SUV looking things. Pacifica is it? What pisses me off more is they know they did it! Since I have a black car, it has that very fine layer of dust, and you can see where they rubbed to see if they could get it to come out and left no info! ********! Oh well, I'm done venting for now, my cinnamon rolls are ready, I'm going to eat one.
Meh, some people here in San Antonio are real ****-holes...........they don't have a nice car, so they get jealous of someone who does and they compensate by messing with their car.

man, that sucks about the vandalism... At least with theft they get something... vandals have absolutely no excuse... I honestly cant think of why anyone would want to do that... I'm guessing they wouldn't appreciate it if I thought their arm looked too nice so I decided to snap it in half...
I've actually been thinking of this thread recently... something occurred to me that I didn't think of when this thread was active the first time. For those who say to park away from trucks and SUVs, it's kinda hard to do that a lot of the times... In a lot of the southern states, especially texas, you get a lot more people who drive those types of cars out of choice... not really out of necessity etc. I honestly think it can be challenging to stay away from the SUV's and trucks.
I have a story which happened to me last week. I had just pulled up into my spot at the grocery store and was getting out, when this lady pushing her empty cart puts it on the crack between the cement slabs right in front of my car (spot across from me was empty). The cart return thing was one spot further from where she put the cart (text diagram below) so I decided to comment and had a conversation as follows:
Me: excuse me ma'am, the cart return is right there.
lady: and?...
Me (a little pissed): And it looks like your legs work well enough to push it on over there.
At that point she just kinda walked off in a huff. Looking back, I wish I had moved the cart behind her car (7 spaces down) and when she gets all pissed, I'd simply say it was too far to push it to the cart return. I was amazed at how she couldn't walk that short extra distance after walking so much further.
diagram (best I can do)
\_\_\x\_\o\_\
.\..\..\ m\..\..\..\
x = cart
o= cart return
m= me/my car
(bad diagram but gets the point across)

If you have the problem of people parking right next to you when you are parked near back and there's plenty of open spaces just do what I do and carry a crowbar in the trunk. They probably park there thinking 'aha ill teach this rich ******* a lesson.' Then they come out and find that they were the ones taught a lesson.
Just kidding...bleeding heart liberal that I am, I hate guns...

try paintless dent removal

To get back to my previous post.
I had owned my RX8 for 6 WEEKS when it was vandalized.
I did find out who did it and yes I wanted to kill or maim them, burn down their house and destroy their property.
In the end I did nothing. If anything should happen to them or their property, I would be first blamed and investigated as the police now had a file open on them.
My buddy and I did the detective work and passed that onto the useless police and insurance company. Here insurance is a 1 company monopoly with government authority.
Cops said they knew the guys had done it but didn't have enough evidence to charge them.
The Insurance Company said the 2 guys who smashed our cars had to pay the $42, 000 back to them. Those 2 guys actually owned a company that they needed trucks for (landscaping, thats why they had the tools with them) and now they can't insure their vehicles OR renew their drivers liscences until all outstanding debts are paid, just like any unpaid fines or tickets.
So in the end, my Rx8 was fixed to new with a $200 deductible cost and the $700 flooding cost. My buddy got the new paint job on his car he had been waiting for and the 2 guys who thought they'd **** up some nice cars, fucked their livelihoods up.
Any of you guys come outside to ur RX8 (or any car) and find a dent on ur driver door by the handle? I had it happen once. $175 for paintless dent removal. I've seen rx8's that will need new doors from being kicked repeatedly and many, many Mazda 3's that will.

well, i have to admit something here, i ruined my own car.....
i sat on my front fender about 6 inches after the headlight and it gave in, i stood back up and heard a "pop"... now i have a little wave action going on
stupid!!!!
as for other crap, a big azz bag of leaves and/or bag of branches fell off a landscape truck on the freeway... i hit it and it literaly picked up the front end of my car... result: two bent front lower control arms, all the plastic buttons popped out that hold my fender liners in, the bumper flexed hard and now i have spiderweb cracks around the edges of the grill and the oil level sensor snapped off where the harness mates to it.
repaired sensor connector, $5, jb weld
driver side control arm, $380 or so
passenger side control arm 280 or so
plastic buttons, $40

I must concur, and I'm a people.
I've employed all the advantageous parking tips and still get nicks. What really amazes me is when I park way off in a corner of a big parking lot, with no one around, and when I come out from shopping there's a small herd parked around me!
"People, they're the worst Jerry, the worst."
