The RX-8 didn't make it. The rep told me that it was in Detroit. I'm a bit surprised that, for a car rumoured to be available in a few months, that there is only one example in the US. Oh well, the wait continues.

Mazda was well positioned next to the display of classic exotic cars, so they were getting a fair amount of traffic. Hopefully a few Accord buyers were swayed to the 6.
There was a 6 in metallic red. It made a good combo with the black interior.

Customer cars won't be available until late May at the earliest.

And there were three cars in Detroit, two in L.A., and who knows how many pre-production models elsewhere...

RX-8 will be at Houston show

My Houston dealership confirmed at least one, maybe even two, RX-8s will be at the Houston auto show. My salesperson is actually manning the Mazda booth for the first two days of the show (which starts on Jan 25) so I would hope they know what they are talking about.

Re: RX-8 will be at Houston show

I hate to say it like this .. but your dealer is full of $%&#.

I speak with the Mazda regional marketing and advertising reps on a regular basis (this morning actually) and even though the www.houstonautoshow.com website shows a RX-8, the chances of one coming to Houston at all are VERY slim. The titanum RX-8 (the one in NAIAS) was coing to Houston, but has been diverted to another show instead.

We will have in the booth an:

Mazda B-series truck with a lift kit.
A modified Protege 5 (not seen at the shows before)
RX-7 (undetermined which one)
And all of the other 2003 lineup models.

See you there.. I will be working the show several days and hope to meet many of you there.

Why not?

Is that because it is a 2004?

Maybe they want the 6 to be star of their booth this year, and the RX-8 next year?

Does anyone have a list of cities that WILL have the RX-8 at the local auto show?

I will push for a list next time I talk with them.. however it seems there is lots of politics involved with any show except the LA-Detroit-New York shows... all other shows fend for themselves

Why not... the car was being begged for by MANY shows across the nation... see above answer for why it won't be in *Houston.

*note = There is still a 25% chance it will be in Houston, I will update with a new Houston thread when I find out.

DrKillJoy, I see that you heard it will be in St. Louis. Is that for sure? I would like to see it there or in Chicago.

I have it on very good authority the car is going to St. Louis.

Jan 29 - Feb 2, 2003

The Chicago show runs parallel with the Canadian Intl. Auto Show so who knows if it will be in Chicago either.

DrKillJoY, please find out about Dallas.

Maybe Dallas will get lucky because that show is not until the end of March.

Still waiting for that info..

Dates for those cars are so highly contested..

I was told there are only "9" show cars for the autoshow circuit.

Noone will know until about 2-3 weeks before the show...

You are aptly named! I have two free tickets to the Houston show - is it still worth going? Who stole our car and can we steal it back? I don't want to have to wait until June before I can touch the interior etc.

Do you know if the car will be at the Chicago show? Perhaps I can arrange a business trip to my office there to coincide with it...

per Cagiva :

I can confirm that in the past 15 minutes arrangements were made to expedite a Silver on Red manual trans from Irvine to Houston for the auto show.

Given no transport hassles the unit can be seen starting on Saturday. I understand that a great big thanks has to be given the Reliant Center Management for allowing a late arrival into the show!

I hear that this RX-8 is a special unit thus will be on a turntable and not on the floor open to the public.
