Picking up my 8 on friday

Hi guys, finally I'll be picking up my 8, the 40th edition, on this Friday.

I have few questions.

1. Break-in. I searched about it, and some people say break-in is not needed, and some people say just drive carefully till reach 1000 miles. Who's right?
What's the meaning of CAREFULLY? Under 3000 rpms? And is proper Break-in gonna help me getting little better gas mileage?

2. Warm up before moving, for how long?

3. Any members of this forum living in Albany, NY area? I'm seeing many 8s in these days haha

Thanks in previous.

1. The exact rpm varies by who you ask, but just keep the revs down and avoid full throttle or sustained speeds for the first 1000 miles. Doesn't necessarily effect gas consumption, but engine longevity.

2. However long it takes you to get in, buckle up, tune the radio, etc. I usually give it about 30 seconds, or until the revs drop below 1500rpm. Just remember that if you stall or turn the car off before the temp needle begins to move you might flood the engine, so let it warm up a little before shutting it off.

Welcome to the addiction

(general disclaimer - I am not the expert, but this is what I have found)
Proper break in is about 1000 miles. Just dont rev up too much over 4000 and you should be fine.

After that - redline once a day to keep the carbon away.

And warm up takes several minutes to reach temp.
I dont even back out of the garage until the needle starts to move.
I live at the top of a hill, so I kinda idle it down to the light, and I am warm by then.

And look in the regional sections for your new yorkers

i read if you drive it like you stole it for the first 1,500 miles, then change the oil and drive normally its best for the engine.*

i bought my car used though, so what do i know.

*teamrx8, but i dont know if he was being sarcastic or not.

1. I took it to mean no redlining. Mine's 2 months old and doing great.
2. Mine? Anywhere from 30 secs to 2 mins.
3. Does Long Island count? If so, then yes.

Enjoy your car.

I've always thought 1st was harder on this car, at least it took me longer to get down than reverse. Yes though, I used to let it warm up for much longer for worry that I'd stall. Anyhow, welcome and congrats.

racing beat says:
- For the first 1000 miles do not accelerate under full throttle.
- During the first 1000 miles do not exceed 4000 RPM.
- For miles 1000-2000, expand the RPM upwards - but do not accelerate at full throttle.
- Over 2000 miles, full throttle and high RPM is acceptable.

Thanks for all the infos guys! Really helped!

So as long as the engine is warmed up, stalling won't harm too badly?

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I'm just too worried!

Should I attach the paper saying 'This car moves back, don't come too close' on my back window hahaha
