Plastic pieces in center console cubby.
This theard is probably useless with out pics, but i dont have a digi cam right now. Anyways, my car came with these 2 little plastic pieces in the center console cubby thing. They are about 1 to 1 1/2 inches long maybe 1/4 inch wide. They look like caps or clips for something, Anyone have any idea what they are?

Nah def not floormat clips. They weren't attached to anything. They are black and they were just chilling in the storage bin cubby in the center console.
I'm at work. When I get home I'll try to scan then with my scanner. Dunno how that is gonna come out though. lol

They clip into the silver colored metal pieces at the top of this pic. Mine look more like they are zinc plated.
They hold the carpeting in place. The RX-8 carpeting is two pieces: driver's side and passenger's side.

The black push clips are used for holding a lot of different things on the car.
There are a few different ones though.

I'm pretty sure I know exactly what they are. If you are talking about finding the clips in the center console / cupholder thing, or more specifically, the area with the 12V plug when you lift up the arm rest. Is there a small slit along one side of each of the pieces?
Towards the front of the arm rest, there are two tabs on the underside, one on each side. You can see them when you lift the arm rest up when you slide it all the way to the back. These two tabs are guided along by grooves in the walls of the cupholder cavity. When slid all the way back, the groove opens up and allows you to lift the arm rest. When sliding forward, the tabs are "captured" in the grooves and thus the arm rest won't be able to lift.
These pieces you are talking about cap the tabs, so that the tabs are a little bit thicker and fill the groove a little better. The result is a smoother sliding arm rest. I found one when one of the pieces fell off: the one that caps the tab on the right side of the arm rest, close to the hinge. Because of the small size of the location, it was a little tough to get it back on. You won't have any problems though if you study it closely and understand how it works.
Sorry no pics.

Portero is correct. Those tabs are part of the sliding console cover. I found one in the cupholder about the same time as I noticed the cover wasn't sliding smoothly. The dealer replaced the sliding cover and that took care of the problem.

Same here. One of mine had come off and another was broken. My dealer replaced the sliding lid.
