Agh, I am sixteen and own a fully paid off RX-8 (Say what you want, this is only an internet forum :p) and I am dead scared of speeding. As a Junior in high school, insurance is enough already, let alone a speeding ticket.

Question for those of you with life experience: If I (16) got a speeding ticket, would it matter what car? The RX-8 is insured under my mom while our Honda civic is under my name (although cars are the other way around). So, would the insurance go up the same if I happen to speed and get a ticket?

Age makes a large impact on maturity, however, I feel I drive safely (I don't actr as if I'm professional as many of my peers seem to do) making sure to follow all rules. If I am on the open road with no lights in sight, yeah, I push my 8 a bit but with other cars there is no way I will go over 5mph over on streets and 10mph on highways. Just not worth it if caught.

No, your insurance (the Honda) will definitely go up dramatically however, the amount will vary from insurance agency to insurance agency



This will work unless you get into an accident in the RX-8 that requires your insurance to pay. Things may get sticky at that point.

Thanks for the helpful reply! The insurance thing is not a problem because our plan allows for others to drive if we give them oral consent (or so I believe). I don't plan on wrecking my baby, but then again, does anyone ever plan to? Track time is a dream, lets see if it ever comes true...

I forgot to mention in my original post, directed towards the original poster - Good luck man, that stuff can get stressfull.

All I can say is that you always hear people telling their awesome stories about how they beat the system and got around a huge ticket. In my limited experience I would say it's never a good idea. I had a guy cross over the yellow line and slam into the side of me as I was coming out of a gas station and to make a long story short, I got the ticket. I prepared this elaborate case with witnesses and it basically came down to the fact that the other guy lied and I was 16 -- obviously, I lost.

Sometimes you can get lucky, but often the best thing to do is throw yourself upon the mercy of the court and just deal. Even when it's not your fault, most courts will be predjudiced against younger drivers because, well, they generally aren't as good. My advice is a little late for you now, but remember it in the future. I can almost guarentee you'll have another opportunity to fight or not in the future. Just keep in mind the risks.

I guess everyone is giving you some tough love here. I agree with everyone and i'm 19, got the rx8 when i was 17 and the only time i really speed around is on the track. Just be more careful and keep an open eye for marked and unmarked cop cars. They are usually crown victorias and get to know the headlights and tailights especially at night. Another thing, if you're not sure about unmaked cop cars, look at the liscence plate and check if it has an "exempt" on it.

Well, yeah, hope you learned your lesson and hope everything gets better. Its only the beggining of the year.

And about the advice, occupational license like everyone said and do what i did back in the days, ask friends to bring you around cause i bet they owe you for taking them around Well good luck to you.

Try 42 and 64 and you'd be more on the money. Considering that most residential areas in the US have a 25 or 30mph limit, and a good portion of the highways still have the outdated 55 mph limit, the original poster was essentially correct in his assesment. Anyone who can claim that they have never exceeded a speed limit by 10 mph or or more is either lying or has had their right foot amputated. That is all.

Bicycle.. people commute by bike up to 20 miles routinely, in all kinds of weather.

#B. Not having a valid license does not preclude you from driving per se.... It just has bad consequenses if you get caught.

What were the conditions for them suspending your license for 30 days anyway? To my understanding they don't do that for just a traffic ticket unless you were caught very excessivly speeding, have multiple multiple multiple offenses or hadn't paid past tickets.

You're from Philly... what part of I-95 is a 55 mph road? When I lived in NC, I used to drive up 95 all the time to visit family in Pittsburgh. I cant remember seeing any 55 signs and that was back in 94-96. I-10 down here is 65-70 depending on where you are. Dont forget, the "redline" starts at 9k rpm. Just because you keep accelerating after that doesnt make the redline speed any different, it simply means you are running your 8 into the ground.

To be honest I don't feel bad for this kid either...this is one of those situations where if you didn't beat the ticket, don't mention it again

that being said since you are 16/17? driving a sports car...you walk in front of a judge to fight the ticket instead of taking the plea deal...that either takes HUGE ***** or a total intelligence failure

as you spoke to the judge in court all she heard was 'blah blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah' because circumstance was not on your side whatsoever

that being said you could have spent the money on a Radar detector and laser jamar but since it sounds like they used the VASCAR timing system for speed acquisition then you were screwed...only way to be those is vigilance on the road and questioning an officer's methods until he starts fumbling in court...which is doable

I fought a ticket at 20 years old (not in this car) and it was a great experience...I was looking at suspension of my license for a month...fines of around $400...but I went to the prosecutor with about 300-400 pages of information refuting the methods of the officer/laser speed acquisition technology/pictures of reflectivity of the front of the car (it was a Laser not radar ticker)/and more...prosecutor gulped after he totally fumbled on just the name of the technology used for obtaining the ticket and then sheepishly dismissed me, it was a major rush
