Please help potential new owner with question - MIAC?

hmmm not sure why it doesn't fit... I can think of two things:
- the hose is of a different diameter at the other end, or
- configuration is slightly different on a newer model 8.
Maybe someone else can chime in - that's all I got!

Mine is 2007 GT, MT, Canadian model.
This is what stumps me too. Because I have not been able to remove the hose from the engine block side, I have been unable to verify the inner diameter of the hose. The outer diameter of the hose are the same on both ends. It would seem very odd if one side of the hose has a different inner diameter than the other.

I made a wrong assumption by looking at the wheels in your sig; I thought yours was an 09 or newer... my bad.
All I can suggest is to try loosing the hose on the engine side with channel lock pliers; if they are adjusted properly they will grab the hose tightly without crushing it against the fitting. It worked well for me.

Having said that, we need a lot more info on your car and you should make your own thread on this issue, don't use this one.
Put stuff in that other thread like.............year, auto or manual, your maintainance history, what grade of gas you use, mods, and any CEL you may have, etc.
I could guess at your issue, but it would just be a guess...........until we have more info.

I'm taking my 2005, GT, AT RX8 in today to have this looked at. Bought the car used (2nd owner) and heard the noise during initial test drive. I only hear it when pushing 6K+ rpm in lower gears. If I stay in lower rpm the noise is unapparent. I'm taking my computer with me so that way this post can hopefully shed some light on the issue. I drove with a tech a couple days ago and he said "I don't have the slightest idea where to begin guessing what that noise could be." BIG thank you to everyone who has posted about this. We'll see what happens when I take it in.

OK so I am reading through all these threads:
https://www.rx8club.com/canada-forum-35/noo-my-09-has-marbles-can-noise-miac-191483/page2/
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...g+coolant+tank
And lwelch73 seems to be describing my cars problem to a 'T'. I have the MIAC noice when it is hot and I also get loss of power. Just the other day I came home from work (10 mins) and then got back in my car again 10 mins later to go somewhere the car was acting like a spark plug wire was off. It runs fine now and I did nothing but with all these posts I dont see where the loss of power was addressed, just the noise?
I have replaced the plugs and coils. I am ready to replace the MAF. What about this restrictor part?

If you have a loss of power with the MIAC sound it is a preignition problem you have most likely. What heat range plugs are you using.....are you using premium gas....have you done a decarbon cleaning? The restricter has to do with a water hose noise.

I would go to premium fuel and see if it goes away. If you haven't done a decarbon cleaning this might get rid of hot carbon spots in the engine that can cause preignition. I had good luck with throttle body bypass that only takes a minute to do.

hhmmmm, frustrating experience ..........
Here in Australia, I have a series 2 and have always heard the same noise, so decided to do something about it today.
I rang up Mazda and told them I knew of this issue, expressed it to them and was initially told they'd never heard of it ever. I then gave them the part no. I got a phone call back to say that the part was discontinued and they couldn't (or wouldn't) help.

Go look up ASH8, he's down under and can surely assist.
I would post in his "part number" thread even though you know the number, he checks that thread often. Do an advanced search on threads started by him.

I take it you are talking about the orifice or brass coolant restricter that goes inside the Heater Hose.
Part Number F100-61-E09
Now "technically" Mazda (the Dealer) is correct, these were never installed in any Series 2 RX-8's from the factory, and was used only in the first year of RX-8 production (Series 1).
The part itself is still used on a Mazda 3 Diesel (and other models) and is not discontinued, they may have meant discontinued for use in the RX-8 which is correct...
The Part is still available.
Now I am not going to enter into the debate of the perceived benefits and MIAC, and even IF this is your issue.
Some cars make this sound some don't, frankly I have some reservations about this 'mod'.
Anyway, this is not a factory recognized fix, in fact I have never seen any 'official'
Mazda Japan to Distributor to Dealer notification on this particular fix...someone may show me?
IF your Aussie Mazda Dealer really wanted to please you they would get away with doing it and even making a warranty claim on Mazda Australia for the $4.00 part and time.

I'm going to add to the success stories for installing the restrictor, as it eliminated the high-rpm MIAC noise in my 2009 R3. It did not, however, get rid of the brief coolant sloshing noise from the heater core that I often hear on cold start-up. I can live with that. Call it "character".
As for the dealership not having heard of this, I'd like to thank the RX-8 Club forum members for providing the solution. And the part number. And the diagram.
There was something of a battle between my local dealership and I over this repair, in part because it took me a while to figure out what was required to be able to replicate the noise. My RX-8 would make the MIAC sound pretty reliably if revved over 6500-7000 rpm, provided it had spent more than a couple of minutes at 80 km/h (50-ish mph) or higher beforehand. Otherwise, occasionally it would, but more often it would not (after being shut off for a few minutes, for example) - very frustrating when trying to demonstrate it to a tech or service adviser. Even more aggravating was when I'd come off the highway on the way home after failing to replicate it only to have it make that noise!
Even once the service manager had finally heard it, the dealership still insisted on de-carboning the engine (no cost under warranty, so go right ahead guys...), and did the restrictor probably more to get rid of me than with any expectation of actually fixing it. You've got to keep pushing, I guess. I could easily have bought and installed this part myself, but why should I have to, when the car was still under warranty?
One thing to note: The case number provided elsewhere in this thread was apparently of no help to them. Perhaps a Canadian/American thing.
All the same, thanks to you (and Mazda Canada), that horrid noise is gone, and I'm happy to once again regularly visit 9K.
