i hate this thing.
Wait until you have trouble with it and the tow truck has to take it to the dealer and the dealer charges you about $800 to replace a keyless module and you HAVE to have 2 good keys plus the credit card. And they say they have no idea why this happened?
If you blow a dash fuse your car will not/crank or run.
Mazda went with the Canbus system because they dont have to do as much harness and it makes repair easier (but more expensive) Dealers love these things.
They are actually starting to sell keyless/immobilizer insurance! Does that tell you something!
It is NOT a thief preventative--. Most car thiefs are done when the keys are left in the car now a days and if a professional thief wants your car--he is going to get it one way or the other.
I like a remote to lock and unlock the doors. An immobilizer is ok if they would do it like volkswagon. In a volkswagon if something happens with the immobilizer then all you do is leave a good key in the ignition for 15 mins and the car will relearn. Not with Mazda. If the immobilizer acts up--its to the dealer to get screwed---period!

@ MissCB25: There must have been a change in the S2 smart key system because on my car its damn near impossible to lock the key inside of the car.
My only two complaints:
1. I cant lock the doors from the outside with the car running. This would be great if I wanted to run into a convenience store real quick and leave the car running. Or more importantly when I'm leaving home, realize I forgot something after I started the car. Now I cant shut the car back off right away (might flood), so I have to leave the car running outside unlocked as I run (literally!) back inside. Im always worried Im going to come back outside and my car will be gone. Also it would be nice to be able to let the car warm up while Im in the house on cold mornings.
2. The annoying door chime when you leave the door open with the ignition turned to aux. This might not be specific to the smart key system. This makes it almost impossible to leave the stereo on while Im cleaning the car.

Other than that I like it because I keep the card/key in my wallet and as long as I have my purse with me (which I always do) it's just press the button and get in...
Note to self, do not ever leave wallet on passenger seat when grabbing purse... car will LOCK with key inside but not UNLOCK till Pop-a-Lock arrives :-/

I lock mine while running quite often. You just need to use the actual key to do it.
