Poll: Spoiler vs. No Spoiler
Let's have a poll... who here likes the look of the RX-8 better with a spoiler? Who doesn't? Who... just... doesn't care? Speak up and vote.
I, personally, like it MUCH better with a spoiler. Sporty cars always look better with them. Just my .02 cents.

I personally usually don't like the look of spoilers on a car. So many of them seem to disrupt the lines of the car (particularly the ridiculous ironing board size monstrosities on some rice rockets). But on the RX8, it looks right. I think it adds to the strong, anime look of the car.

I think the spoiler looks good as long as it isn’t STOCK. Now U have Idiots who will by AUTO ZONE SPOILER and throw that on their 8 because I have seen it done. Then you got the other IDIOT who will put a whale tail as it call 4 feet high. It all boils down to the combination you are looking for as far as style and performance.

I put a VERTEX spoiler on mine and totally changed the look for me. It made it look more aggressive with the hood and suspension I put as well. I noticed that above 80MPH my car rear end does not feel loose like it did before I put the spoiler. It feels like its just planted to the ground.

I like the stock spoiler on a stock car (mine) or a small, flat low profile one. The MS is too tacky and ridiculously overpriced imo.
That or no spoiler at all....if the 8 has a body kit it might look great without one.

Agreed, I have seen one that is more lip like and gives the rear a wider look, very nice. I have the stock one and like it but it narrows the look of the rear. Wider is more aggressive.

I have a pet peave with no spoil. I think the 8 looks 'naked' without it. Just my opinion but definitely needs a spoil.
I also have the front lip, aeroflares and rotary aceents, which I also think make the car look better. I'm not into body kits, not even the MS, yet I do like the MS wing, but agree it's over priced.

I'm really not a fan of spoilers at all. 95% of aftermarket spoilers look completely stupid. My car came with the factory wing/spoiler and I don't like it at all - it traps water, and generally looks "ricey". But I can't remove it because they drill the trunk lid to install it. Useless.
By the way, absolutely NONE of those spoiler do dick for the aerodynamics of the car - they just increase drag.
Car and Driver did a test a number of years ago on factory and aftermarket spoilers, installed on a test sports car (I don't remember what, but I think it was probably a Corvette). None of the spoilers added any downforce whatsoever to the car, and actually decreased the car's top-end ability due to the drag. Two or three of the aftermarket spoilers actually decreased downforce - i.e., they caused lift.
They then tested trunk lips - trunk lips DO have an effect on both downforce and drag co-efficient - they promote a cleaner separation of the airflow from the rear of the car and therefore help both decrease drag and, in a minimal way, increase downforce mainly by avoiding a bubble of air behind the car.
I generally think any and all non-functional mods are stupid. Carbon Fiber engine hood/bonnets are the worst offender - this car has a ridiculously lightweight aluminum hood to begin with, so the pound or two you save with the carbon is like "bailing the Pacific with a teacup", and all it does is make the car look like it was in a wreck and you couldn't afford to repaint the hood.

Non-functional mods may be stupid, but *counter*-functional mods certainly are.
