Question Is it possible?

A guy at work bugs me all the time about it because him and his friends are mechanics on the side and tell me that they could in fact put a 302 V8 in my 8.

What do you guys think? Is it possible? Would it even be worth it? I really doubt im going to do it but I was still wondering about the logistics with it. I remember reading a thread about an LS1 being put in an 8 but other than that has anybody really changed their engine aside from the 20b?

I assume this is a Ford block? Iron Ford block = RX-8 Pig.

One thing to do an LS swap since those blocks are so light...another to do that one.

Really? Wow I never thought of that, and yes the 302 is a Ford block. The LS1 is that also a V8?

Reading around I found out that the 302 weighs about about 415, im not sure if this is fully dressed, and I coudn't find an accurate weight of a renesis engine. Does anybody know the weight to one?

Anything is *possible*. You could put a space shuttle solid rocket booster on it, if you were really bound and determined. Why one would WANT to is an entirely different question.

LS1 is a lot more powerful and very modable...cheap parts and cheap to buy. And yes it is a V8...5.7 liters

no it wont be a sleeper. you could tell if an rx8 doesnt have a high pitched tone anymore and there would also be a hell of a lot of noise. "american high performance" noise

This idea make me think of this reply...

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I know I really don't want to put a V8 in there, but the idea always just passes through my head. Compared to other 8's I think I have pretty high mileage. And even though its rumored that this engine can live forever, I would always like to have a back up plan.

LSx engine cars get good MPG...when i drove the t/a, i was getting around 20 mpg city....and in the 8, i get 17 mostly highway.

Durability...my brother has a modded t/a that has 120k miles and he has never had a single problem with his engine. Most LS1s have lived long past 100k miles, even modded.

Does anybody have a good estimate on how much parts and labor would cost to do an engine swap to one of the LSx engines?

Wasn't the rotary one of the main reasons for buying the car?

Even though the chevy is a great engine putting a piston in the 8 is sacrelidge!!!
