Possible NEW Recall (not heat issue) and other tidbits

I just went over to Magic Mazda in Las Vegas, which is the same dealer that told the guy they had 13 8's that needed new engines. I went in cause someone pushed a shopping cart into my car today and I wanted to see if they could reccomend a body shop.

The rep told me they had just found out about a new recall that will be issued next week or so regarding the "Lower Rocker arms" if I remember correctly.

I also told him I was in a group 1 car and he offered to give me a rental and leave the car with him which I decided against. Might as well drive my own car. I then asked about the 13 cars that "had blown engines". He responded that the engines weren't blown but that was the "fix". I said "what, you mean thats the fix so far for group one vehicles? Replacing the engine??" And he replied "yeah it wont help anything though".

Anyway just thought I'd share this with the forum. We all know its from a rep so take it for what it's worth. I just thought it was interesting. I'm thinking about trading in the 8 on a new 330i tomorrow.

Maybe Im not remembering the exact term, or maybe the rep had it wrong. All I know is he said there might be even another recall. So take it however you want.

Since TeamRX8 retracted his comment I'll retract mine.

The way I read this is the rep misread your comment to him. It's true that the current fix for these engine problems is to replace the engine, but this is a completely unrelated issue to the recall for Group 1 cars.

If there were another recall in the wind, it'd make sense to have it done when the Group 1 cars come in in August.

man, what is it with the dealers you are going to? This is the second time you mentioned that a Las Vegas dealer told you about some bogus recall. I think you need to go to a different dealership for service.

Yeah exactly, I couldnt imagine the actual fix being replacing the engine so I'm sure he was just talking about the cars he had there. And if there is a new recall I'm surprised you don't have the info on it already seeing as youre usually on top of that stuff. So who knows whats going on with this guy.

maybe he (rep) meant rocks on the lower a-arms.
I agree w/ RenoIV. Ever since the recall for the under body heat issue, there has been a "new recall" post almost everyday. Almost like a witch hunt.
I'll wait for either a TSB to come out or the car dies.

I am staying away from LV dealers (you are talking about CAR dealers, right?)

That rep probably doubles as a craps dealer that's why he's full of it... muhahaha

Dudes give the guy some slack, he clearly qualified his post as something he only heard from a rep, even he mentioned that reps are not known to be acurate :p

i wouldn't get the new 330i. it's a brand new car on it's first year. new motor, new body, new everything. i've test driven it, great car, much better car than the E46. but i'd wait a couple months, let BMW work out the bugs. i guarantee you will be having programming issues and electrical issues...just as i have seen in the new 5, 6, and 7.

There you go, finally someone actually uses their brain. No matter how much you spell it out for some of these guys, they instanly do a knee-jerk flame. It's like its their whole lives or something.

It's amazing to me that BMW cant get the electronics right. What kind of issues are you seeing?

first off, Japanese (IMO) make better cars in general. i bought my 04 RX8 used with 1800 miles sport package. production date on it is late 04, i think. had it since january and it's now up to 14500 miles...no problems at all. ANYWAYS, my mazda compared to a bmw is like comparing a tape deck to an ipod. the new line of bmw's use things like fiber optics, iDrive (which is very confusing to the average person), SMG, they have a control module for everything. i deal with BMW's everyday, some of the problems are just retarded. i'm not going to get into the full details b/c i'm too lazy to type. i work on them, i will never own one...unless it's an E53 X5 4.8is :D

Hmmm ... I'd check with other dealers to see if they have the same "recalls" going. Sounds bad but it could be a "make work" project.

With regards to the 330 ... my neighbor just got a new one and after a month of ownership, her car flooded! Had to get it towed to BMW to get it fixed. Looks like they need the M flash But seriously I think that the 330 is an alright car and I don't wanna scare anybody ... she flooded her car because she's one of those people who drive 2 meters and shut off the engine.

Ha, thats pretty funny. I was over at a BMW forum and someone was complaining about the heat from the center console. Someone else was complaining about lack of torque. Looks like it wouldn't be any different, might as well keep the 8.
