possibly switching to evo..
I always tried to justify my 8 as a beautiful car,,and it just lacks a little bit of power which I was trying to improve by waiting for the damn PTP kit to come out..
Yesterday morning, my justification finally broke loose as my engine had flooded for the first time. I know that I like my 8, its beautiful styling, nice sounding engine, exhaust, handling,, but I just can't love it because it has no power..
Besides too much gas and too much hassle when it snows.
so I was seriously considering trading the car in for 2006 lancer evolution MR version. The car is rated at 286hp but it dynos at 270+whp bone stock. That's already higher than Greddy turboed rx8. Not to mention it gets better mileage and awd.
I know I'm giving up alot on the looks department, but other than that, what should be the reason to keep me from going to evo?

Power is not everything. You will giving up a pretty sports car with great handling, great high revving engine and awesome interior for an econobox with a monster engine. The Evo is an awesome car which owns the 8 in terms of performance, but I am near 40 years old and cannot see myself driving down the road in a boy racer, rice rocket. Maybe 15 years ago it would have been the car for me, but I could not afford it then.
I have considered trading the 8 for more power, but 0-60 in around 6 secs and a top speed of 150ish, I dont need to go any faster than that and the speed limit on the freeway will still be 70mph.
Consider the MS6, Legacy GT or G35 Coupe for more power without the Speed Racer looks.

I had throught about the EVO, but only briefly. The price is way too high for what you get. No interior, not the best looking, the only thing it really has going for it is the engine and AWD. The 8 is a fast car, not as fast as the evo, but straight line isn't everything.
any of the suggestions UK BLACK gave are good. If you want something you can mod easily. buy a 98 or 99 eclipse gsx. same engine i believe as the evo (4g63), awd, just not as tuned, do the tuning yourself. you would definitley save some cash

I agree....
You should be looking at a real car, the G35 with its higher power output this model year.
.....now tell us why the '8 is such a hassle in the snow? You DO have snow tires, right?
Probably think the 4x4 Evo will be easier to drive, but I find different - in snow, my all-wheel drive car can spin all four wheels....you think just the backs spinning is awkward, try going sideways with NO traction for a while!

The Rx8 may not be the fastest, and we all want more power, but we drive it cause we love rotaries, and appreciate them for what they are.
Keep that in mind and you'll make the right decision for you.

the RX8, well I would not get the G35 coupe they are over priced even the used ones are! at least here in FL they are. It is a glorified 350z with a usless back seat.My neighbor has that Legacy GT in black and it is sharp! I love my 8 way I think is I had Z28s they were all built up and had there issues as well. So it is what it is.... I love the looks, the speed, handling, and my low insurance cause the dumb asses really think it is a Sport sedan!!! little do they know.... I am 33 and like that I do not look lke the ricer racer, 8 owners are a special breed I think. we have sorta an exotic car....same deal....my buddies Ferrari...pain in the ***....but when he drives it , he could careless. before flames start!! I am not comparing the 8 to a F355, just same point....soon as I hear that rotor spin and i zip in a turn....flood what????? gas milegae who needs that

If the Evo's looks don't bother you then go for it. I think the Evo handles as well as if not better than the RX-8. Not to sure, but I heard people say so. And it will own the RX-8 in the straights. If the looks and luxury factor don't matter, then there is no reason for you to choose the RX-8 over the Evo.

Yes I do, and that is with my latest dyno of 363 rwhp on a dynojet for my FD. In my case, with similar driving styles and pretty close to the same amount of time on city and long cruise driving, the MY Fd averages at best 20.5 with a low of 18.5 ish. With the 8, the best I or my wife have been able to do in the month we've had it is 17. Granted it will get better as a few more miles are put on it, but still after hearing all the hype of the renesis is better because of this or that, it still sucks down gas faster than any of my other 7's. Do I sound a little disappointed, yeah a little, but if I didn't love the rotary then I wouldn't own 4 rotary powered cars right now either.

If you are going to get an EVO, PLEASE...Please wait till the new one comes out. Have you seen the concept EVO....MUCH MUCH better looks!!!!
But, I agree...these “the RX8 is slow” remarks are just plane foolish. What do you gain in the REAL WORLD for having a car that reaches this and that times on a track?
Bragging rights? Gosh...some people still have the High School mentality. At the end of the day, in the grand scheme of things, who cares.....
With that said, it’s your money and if you think it’s a smart thing to buy another car then do it. Who cares what we might tell you, if HP is your only priority in the car world then it does not matter if your driving a cardboard box with a LS6 stuck in it.
I can see the good in just about all sports cars but if it hurts my eyes to look at it I could care less about it’s HP.

That evo is kind of a boytoy car. NO CLASS. I'd rather have a used Vette or Mustang. What's the matter with you boy. The RX8 is fast but not blazing fast. I suppose if you compare it to a car with 100 more hp then you think it slow. The flooding problem is no excuse either. Take it in for the tsb that addresses the problem. Your not mature enough to enjoy the ballance and refinement of a real sportscar. The evo isn't even a sportscar. It's a jap tuner econobox. Get real son or leave the ranks of sportscar owners.
