Potential new owner: Not sure if the 8 is for me...
I love the car, the way it looks, the way it handles, and the price i'm getting it for. I've been pretty excited about getting the car, and my trade is about to fall apart so the dealer let me take the 8 home last night. I've put maybe 50 miles on it so far driving it home and going to work and its already used 1/4 tank of gas.... i've not been driving it hard at all and just driving normal, keeping RPM's under 5k. Is this typical?
I've not purchased the car yet so i can always back out.

The mileage should get better once the car is broke in. You can expect between 16 and 18 MPG for city driving, freeway driving you can get slightly over 20.
If the mileage is what you base keeping the car on then it is not for you.

the real question is...is it MT or AT? if it is AT just take it back. mileage isn't great, if you are looking for economy, don't bother.
if you can handle the gas mileage, you will be incredibly happy with the car.
Also, and I know this scares some people...but you will have to check your oil every other fillup. the motor is designed to burn oil. you may need to add a quart in between oil changes.

don't know if you'd be interested, but there isn't a whole lot of aftermarket for this car either. not many cheap things to make it go faster. it is a quick car,but not fast off the line. a lot of people hve bought without researching and are upset later, figured i'd share.

Unless you have 56K dialup, "gas mileage" does turn up threads in search. If you look beyond the first page, he 2nd and 3rd pages have some threads. There is even a sticky on gas mileage stats that is 144 posts long.

Here's the one question you need to ask yourself:
Do you want to pwn n00bs in the tw1st1es or the str8s? If it's the former, get the 8. If it's the latter, get something else. If you don't care about pwning n00bs then why do you even bother getting out of bed in the morning?

20.6 miles one way to work (41.2 miles a day) x5
32.2 miles one way to my parents house (when i visit) (~65 miles round trip)
I figure i'll be filling up twice a week, and she takes only premium right?
$2.79 * 15 (at empty) = $41.99 x2 = $83.97 a week in gas
$83.97 * 52 = $4366.44 a year in gas.

Do what I did. Look at some BMWs, maybe a Corvette.
Then when you buy the 8, you'll have saved $15K to $20K. (More if you look at a Ferrari or two.) That savings will go a long way to covering the extra gas costs.

Also, I think your driving distances are similar to mine (one-way to work is 22 miles 70% highway, plus occasional trips to wherever). I average 18-19 mpg, get around 240-260 miles to a tank, and fill up every 5 days. I like to drive briskly around town, but seldom go over 85 on the freeway.
Keeping that in mind, I think you will spend:
Regular: 2.79 * 15 gallons * 6 refills a month * 12 months = $3013.20
Premium: 2.99 * 15 gallons * 6 refills a month * 12 months = $3229.20
Difference per year regular vs premium = $3229.20 - $3013.20 = $216

Where are you paying $2.79 a gallon for gas?
Gas down here is $3.07 a gallon. And you are aware that it takes PREMIUM.
If it's something you think will fit in the budget ,DO IT. You will love the car.
I drive 72+ miles a day , and fill up every other day.
