Just the good stuff folks:
DETROIT, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced its RX-8 sports car, equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission, will be priced from $25,180 when it goes on sale in June. Base MSRP of the 2004 RX-8 with six-speed manual transmission is $26,680. A fully loaded RX-8 with either transmission and every available option, including leather seats, BoseŽ audio, 18-inch tires, moonroof and fog lamps will run approximately $30,000.
Mazda will begin pre-selling the RX-8 online Jan. 8, and consumers can logonto http://www.MazdaRX-8.com to place an order. The pre-sell process will allow prospective customers to configure their RX-8 of choice. This information is then transferred to a local dealer, where the transaction is finished.
The RX-8 continues Mazda's design and engineering tradition, merging unique and dramatic styling with unparalleled performance. The 250-horsepower (estimated) RX-8 comfortably accommodates four adults, while delivering the kind of sports-car driving dynamics sure to capture the imagination of driving enthusiasts worldwide. The vehicle is the latest in a long and historic line of rotary-powered automobiles, the first of which Mazda debuted more than 30 years ago.
"The Mazda RX-8 delivers innovative solutions to traditional automotive restrictions such as packaging, design and drivetrains," said Charlie Hughes, president and CEO of MNAO. "More importantly, though, we questioned why sports cars can't be affordable, and RX-8 is the answer."
Like every Mazda model, the RX-8 will come with a four-year roadside assistance program. With a call to a toll-free number, RX-8 owners can access roadside assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year throughout the United States and Canada. For all 2004 Mazda vehicles, the company will provide a free loaner car in the event a warrantable condition requires the use of alternative transportation.
The 2004 RX-8 will be covered by a comprehensive four-year/50,000-mile warranty that covers every part on the vehicle except those subject to normal wear. In addition, the RX-8 is covered by a five-year/unlimited-mileage corrosion warranty.
Mazda North American Operations is responsible for the sales and marketing, customer service and parts support of Mazda vehicles in the United States. Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., MNAO has more than 700 dealerships nationwide.

It sounds like there will be several option packages. Hopefully Mazda will allow a little more flexibility in ordering options than we have seen in the past.
For those that want a base 6 speed, with cloth, and sunroof, how about $28,000. The pricing is very competitive - I love that they undercut the 350Z fairly well.

I love the base price. I'm not too keen on 18" wheels due to size and tire price concerns. Aftermarket 17" should be perfect. Anyone have Candian pricing yet?

Anybody even know what the standard wheels look like? Also does this mean that the bigger brakes and other stuff will come with the 18" wheel package (DSC, limited slip, etc.)

At around 26000 base this puppy will sell very well. Mazda did what they needed to do price wise. Wait for the initial demand to die down some and the dealers to become more flexable and these cars will be a great deal.

I'm still waiting to get confirmation from the dealer what the price will be. Just 'cause MSRP is $30k for all the options doesn't mean we'll get MSRP. I'm #2 on my dealer's waiting list ($1000 deposit) and when I called him today, his manager was still estimating $30-$35k for a fully loaded RX-8. I'm not sure if it's because they didn't see the official pricing, but my guess is that they are still waiting to see what the demand is so they can see how much they're going to mark up the car.
Hopefully, Mazda will try to get their dealers to conform to the aggressive pricing so that the car will be successful for Mazda in the long run and not just the dealers in the short run.
They also didn't know anything about availabilty time or anything related to the Navigation system.

Thanks to Rotarynews for this info:
We start with confirmed news of an RX-8 presale program. The first few months of production will be devoted to these cars. The program will run from January 8th through March 7th 2003. Dealers will be allocated a set number of cars, customers can configure options, and colors either online, or at the dealer. Mazda dealers will then order the cars. There will be three deadlines, January 13th, Feburary 7th, and March 7th. Cars ordered in January should arrive between June-August, in Feburary between July and September, and in March between August and October. Pricing will be made available later this week, January 8th at the latest.
IF YOU CURRENTLY HAVE A DEPOSIT DOWN ON A RX-8, PLEASE FOLLOW UP WITH YOUR DEALER THIS WEEKEND TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CAR ORDERED IN YOUR NAME. Dealers will have a set number of allocated vehicles, when they are gone, July will be the earliest time to order an RX-8 to your specs, and may not be delivered well into the fall.
