problems w/paint chipping?

ive already got four in three months w/o much highway driving. its not the chips, but the places that have me perplexed: 2 on the roof (i know when one happened, a truck threw a stone at me on the highway,) one on my drivers a-piller and one on the top underside of the fuel door hole. even though the color is beautiful, it seems that the paint quality isnt the best. there are some pretty good threads for fixing them, but i dont want to have to be doing this every few weeks...

Funny, I have heard people say the exact opposite on this very board.

No, chips on the 8 seem pretty easy to come by. I got a few myself within a couple months back when I got it in September. No more since, though. Maybe it's getting harder (yes, I know paints today never fully cure).

Was yours pretty fresh off the boat? Mine had been sitting on the dealers overfill lot for a while. Plus I am VERY careful about how close I get to people when I am behind them. When I had my Miata the hood looked like a teenagers face up close more pits than the moon.

So far I have been lucky...

I hate driving around the Columbus, Ohio (your) area, esp. I-71 and I-270 south side because both of those highways are loaded with uncovered dump trucks throwing off all sorts of stones and debris. Much worse than most urban areas I've been in.

Sorry about your chips. I recommend the clear bra; it's working well for me up front.

Not far from Eastgate area in Union Twp. I stay sharp on Clough Pike every a.m. commute.

Ned

does anyone have chips where the gas cap contacts the car. I put a piece of Clearguard that I had leftover in that area to protect it.

I feel like I have quite a few chips. I've had mine since Sept and yesterday I was bending down near the front detailing the front grill and started noticing how many small nicks I've got. Very dissapointing to find them but I guess if you drive on the highway then it's inevitable. Also not too long ago a small rock smacked my windshield and left two very small nicks. I almost started crying I was so mad.

I had about half a dozen on the front bumper/hood area in the 1st week. My car had just arrived before I got it (I waited 2 weeks for it to get to the dealer).

I bought the black bra for the front end after the 1st week. This time of year in the northeast there's a sand blasting ritual that takes place on just about every major road that has had sand put down on the roads during winter. The remnants of that will start to clear up by the middle of May. Until then, the bra stays on.

Oh, and my winshield has been pelted by small stones at least half a dozen times. TWICE I've gotten nailed by what I would call rocks. I actually saw one coming at me from over the top of an SUV in front of me. SMACK -- without the winshield I would have gotten it right between the eyes! No cracks yet... Be careful -- it's dangerous out there!

Maybe it is color specific. I have the red, do a lot of highway driving (60 miles per day), took delivery in August, close to 15 K miles now, and have more chips than I care to count. I'm guessing around 50 or so. Most on the nose, a lot on the hood, a couple on each door (and/or side of front quarter panel) and a couple on the roof.

I've got chips down to the bare metal that have a faint bit of rust developing on the drivers side fender. I'm not even gonna mention the hood..

No chips so far. Clear bra installed the first week and that's probably in part, why. I also started using Zaino 3 or 4 weeks ago. I doubt that's going to really strengthen the paint or anything but at least when stuff hits the car, it's now hitting a very thin layer of polymer instead of the clear-coat directly. ...it's probably the clear-bra.

I've noticed some small long, narrow chips on the edges of the front doors. Don't think I've been bumping anything with them (almost paranoid where I park.) Real small stuff; will hit it with the touch-up paint one of these weekends. Anyone else noticing this?

Mine has been since the minivan ran a red light and "chipped" off the front end of my '88 626 5-door Turbo last November.

Mines a strictly for pleasure driver and it's got a few. Doesn't take away any pleasure, though.
