Production cut in half

I just got back from my Mazda dealer ( had to order the left rear tail light cover Due to cracks at 3000 miles).Anyway was smoking a cig with the salesmanager and he tells me how the cars are selling good due to the amount of car you receive for the money (which we all know thats way we purchased it ) He procedes to tell me that all his 04 are in AND the production of 05 has been cut in half to drive prices up.
I would think this would be good for the 04 owners? I have often felt like this was a 40000.00 car and i feel like by 06 it will be.
Just thought you guys would want to here this. If your looking at a o4 you better buy it soon because these babies are going up.

Mazda isn't going to confide with some dolt of a sales manager- these idiots have learned one thing from Sales 101- CREATE URGENCY-

So when he tells you this, this pathetic moron thinks this will come back to him in more sales right now- beats waiting till 2005, when he'll be selling something else- like brooms at Wal-Mart.

lol Mazda make money selling cars.

Mazda need cash because ford are broke.

So mazda will sell each and every car it can make, and sell.

Only thing that would affect RX8 production is something else being made at that factory (RX-7/9 , rotary miata, convertable 8 or whatever).

You think so? Why would he tell me that. I mean he was kissing my A## , because the owners are customers of mine and i kinda told them i was not that thrilled over his follow up on a few items so they called him on it. Would he just make it up ? I am not saying its not BS , because i have no idea.

Maybe something else is being made in that factory?? Convertable 8? There has been lots of talk about RX7/9 and Convertable 8. Maybe this is a hint that one is coming? I think a convertable 8 would be likely with all the convertable 350z around here ( the south), they may want to pick up some of that .

What exactly are you trying to say? Without the resources that Ford provides, we wouldn't even have the option of buying a car such as the RX-8. Ford, broke? Maybe unprofitable for a couple of years, but that's turning around. It'll take a long string of unprofitable years before Ford is broke.

But I agree with others that this is total BS. Manufacturers want to sell as many vehicles as possible. The whole reason the RX-7 died was that it was too pricey, so why would Mazda want to increase the price of the RX-8?

For a while now, it's been know (in Canada) anyways, that the price of the 05's are supposed to be about $500 more. No Big Deal.

My dealership told me the 2005 RX-8's would only come with 3 wheels. So if you want 4, you better buy now!

Some salesmen can sell cars, and others cant. None however know what the hell they're talking about when it comes to these things. That guy you talked to was floating you a line of BS. The prices are not going to go up suddenly for the 2005 model year. They havn't hardly even changed anything! Cutting production in half? Not likely. I do agree i think the RX-8 is a believable $40,000 car. And when my friends saw how much i paid for mine their jaws dropped. Its such a steal!

I don't think that the RX-8 should be more expensive. I paid about $40,000 CDN for my GT and am happy with the price. The RX-8 gives you alot for the money, but seems cheap in some other ways (not so solid doors, cheapish interior finishes, really cheap floor mats, no auto climate control, no struts to hold the hood open).

My previous Audi A4 was much more solid inside and out for about the same money. It didn't have the same level of performance but felt more expensive.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 8, but if it cost another $10,000, I'd be looking for a more substantial car.

Whatever, the RX-8 price IS rising.

I bought mine EUR 500 more than when it went out here in Belgium.
And the next batch is quoted EUR 700 more, again.

There is demand for the car, and it's value gets higher.
That means that we could almost sell ours at the price we bought them
(But that won't happen, will it ?)

I smell bullsh*t from a mile away. Given that the statements were from a salesmen, that doubles the distance :P

Take everything a carsalesman tells you with a handful of salt. When I shopped for my car, all 5 salesmen blew crap out of their mouths with various sorts of misleading information. Some were nicer than others, one was very nice, but they ALL gave misleading info about the car at one point or another in my talks with each. One downright lied about the car, saying that in a 6 months there would be a turbo or supercharger available. Another said the car had around 300 hp (not kidding, when I asked him if he read the brochure he dodged that bullet and said, let me get it for you.. haha what a moron). One said the navigation "Plays DVD's" --that's a stretch.. And one said the car I'm getting would not be one that was test driven, but when the car arrived there was 240 miles on the car. I was pissed. He explained the car was manually relocated the car from another dealership.. I've never heard of relocating cars by driving the car! I was pissed, since it was my car. So I said, oh really from which dealership, and he said, "from oxnard". "So," I said, "Oxnard is 240 miles from Santa Monica, give me a break..." He finally admitted he didn't know where "the rest" of the miles were from and said he couldn't guarantee that the car wasn't test driven.." I said, "This car is USED, and started walking out." In the end we came to an agreement and I was compensated for the miles put on the car (I was glad because deep down I REALLY REALLY want the car).

But in short, salesmen are LIARS and some are pure scum, don't let their friendliness decieve you. Ironically the sales guys at SM, where I bought my car, started out "nicest" out of all of them..

Not that this is always true, but it just seems to me that the "friendlier" they are, the more scum they really end up being..

Say what you want, but even if my salesman doesn't know everything about the RX-8, that's him that directed me to the Forums to get a better idea on the car before actually buying it.
No need to say that this forum helped me making up my mind. :o

Yes, salesmen are... salesmen. And they often say dumb/shiny/selling things to have the deal. And some can even be "honest", fwiw...

Regarding prices, MAZDA Belgium has sales pricelists that ALL the dealers distribute with established prices.
Dealers have the liberty to give some degree of refund.
But the official prices are there and, from season to season, RX-8's base value has risen

I didn't get an RX8 yet. I don't want it to turn into a $40,000 USD car!

And the catalytic converter is going to have platinum in it, necessitating $2,000 dealer mark-up because federal emissions laws require dealers to foot the bill on emissions equipment.

I leave for a few hours and I was sure this was going to get some attention. Like i said i have no idea if its true are not,and it was the salesmanager not a salesman.( I realize he can BS me as well). I just thought it interesting and felt like you guys would like to here what he said. As in anything time will tell. I do feel that if it was true , something else would have to be made in that factory to make up for the cutback. You can take it for what its worth , i just thougth i would pass it on.

My doors seem solid enough, the interior is not so cheap when you compare to lets say the CROSSFIRE, my cloth floormats i happen to like, can't say much about the climate control, and i have struts to hold the hood open.

I definitely think the car's price will rise. I remember when Lexus was first introduced. BMW and Mercedes tried to get the trade authorities to investigate Toyota - something about dumping product below its true cost. The Germans claimed it was not possible to produce a car that good and sell it for that little. True or false? Who knows, but over the past 10 years, the prices of Lexus have spiraled upwards. An ES300 costs 48k C$. When first intro'd fully loaded was 36k C$. This while the yen has been dropping in value vs. dollar bloc countries.
I think that the yen may be on the march once again. That will force up prices. Mazda probably hedges their currency forward for about a year, but if the yen continues to rise it is not conceivable that by 2006, the price may be substantially higher.
Furthermore, Mazda does not need to make money on the 8's they sell here in Canada. It's a halo car and its reason for being is to help sell more 3 and 6. So for 04 and 05, the goal would be to get market share vs competition like Z and G35, get the cars on the road.
As far as cutting back production, I think not. However, it is common practice for the factory to divert production to markets where the product may be selling better. So, if there is more demand in US, and Cdn dealers are stuck with product, it would not be out of the question to cut back Cdn bound vehicles to be sold in US, or New Zealand, or wherever.

Yeah, I’m more than a little suspicious of car salesman. I think their reputation (which is a direct result of their past actions) speaks for itself.

So, just for the fun of it, let’s give the guy the benefit of the doubt and say they really are cutting production. I agree with others that the salesman spin is always going to be: HURRY, RUSH, BUY NOW, DON’T MISS OUT, bla, bla, bla

On a distressing note, it could be that production is being cut because demand has dramatically fallen off now that the sales rush from the early adapters (you know, the first guy on the block to have one) has subsided. Maybe a lot of people are doing their homework and have decided to wait on purchasing an 8 until all the chatter about the various problems people are having subsides. If so, Mazda wouldn’t want a glut of 8s on dealer lots. That could really hurt the image of the car and affect how much people want to have one. It seems people tend to show more desire what they don’t have or is hard to get. Yeah, I know, that’s because they already have every thing they can have, therefore, no desire J

Bottom line is that rotaries IMHO are the only real mass-market alternative in the US to internal combustion piston engines. While I, along with other members of this forum love rotaries and have wanted one for years, I’m sure there are a lot of people out there that are very skeptical of rotary technology.

Having the rotary go away for years and then come back in a version that can flood if you don’t go on a 10-minute drive through the neighborhood when you just want to move the car in the driveway is unacceptable. Additionally, this problem has existed for—what--about a year and still isn’t completely fixed—unacceptable again. Mazda has to get on it and fix things now. Outside of the aggravation we experience from these problems, if the car fails over here, we all loose.

Lastly, I am deeply concerned that Mazda will redesign the Catalytic Converters in the 2005 model to handle running lean and will go back to the 250hp fuel mgt program originally meant for our 8s. In other words, the cars will run awesome, get better fuel economy and not flood. On the bad side, we might get left in “M” on “N” flash land with our 8s never being what the could be and should be because Mazda won’t spend the $$ to put the redesigned Cats on the 2004 8s. I really hope I'm wrong on that one, but I have this nagging feeling that more effort is being put into getting 2005 right than fixing 2004. Othewise, I would think this would have been fixed already

Squidward, what was the name of the salesman in Santa Monica you worked with? Need to be careful who I cross paths with there.
