Smile Proper way to "burn rubber"

Fellow drivers - I am about to switch tires (25k on the OEM's - thank you very much!) and my new tires are still in the box. So I want to BURN SOME RIBBER (in a safe lot - of course) and I want advise on the proper way.

So - should I turn off the traction control and just pop the clutch at 3000rpm's ?

Or should I take a fast tight turn and floor it?

suggestions that don't tear up car/clutch/engine ????

There is no way to prevent extra shock to the components (in other words nothing good about doing a burnout). You can minimize the grip and maximize the smoke by pouring a little bit of bleach down before you start...a 3-4k clutch dump in 1st should get it going, if you really get it going you can shift to 2nd and keep it spinning...have fun

A good "smokey" burnout can be obtained by doing the following:

1) put down a good stripe of water on the ground (don't use bleach, it's hell on your paint - you just want to reduce traction.) ... all you need is about a five foot-wide stripe of water, the width of the car.

2) Make sure you've got a good clear zone in front of you.

3) Do this preferably on asphalt

4) Shut off the DSC completely (5 seconds on the button)

5) Pull across the water several times to completely wet the rear tires, then back into the beginning of the water.

6) 4000 rpm, dump the clutch and floor it

7 As the wheelspin comes on, feather your brakes with your left foot and steer carefully - the car will creep forward with the wheels spinning madly (avoid the temptation to shift to second - too much rear wheels speed can cause the tires to disintegrate and tear up your bodywork), and they will smoke fiercely when they hit the dry pavement.

8) Stay on the gas as long as you dare.

Don't forget this is hell on the drive train. If you get ANY wheel hop, jump off the gas. If the car does anything put continue to point straight down the road, get off the gas.

A buddy and I just did this with his 350Z a few days ago. He was putting on PZero Nero M+S's and was "trashing" the old tires, so figured they should go out in a blaze of glory.

another thing that helps is doing this in a parking lot coated with asphalt sealer (that black greasy **** they put on driveways and parking lots) ... low traction, and great smoke.

Or push the DSC/OFF button , turn your wheel all the way in any direction , rev to about 3K rpm and drop the clutch....around and around you go...

doughnuts are easier to control than a straight on burn out in the 8 because the car doesnt have enough torque to continuously break the grip of the wheels. Going in circles makes this easier as you can keep the car in one general area. Just make sure you slow down properly so you dont slide into a curb or something.

I personally like the 7.5k rpm clutch drop on dry pavement.

I didn't say it was the easiest on the car... just my favorite. :D

Cool!! Shoot it on camera and post. One thing....don't OVER-DO-IT. Do 1 or 2 burnouts and then call it quits. These are hell on engine, drivetrain etc. Enjoy your 8, but respect the limitations.

Now, get out there and somke some rubber!!

FYI, it will take at least a week to get the rubber funk out of the interior of the car. My buddy picked me up in his "z" to go drive in the snow last night and enjoy the traction, and his car still smelled of burnt rubber.
