Hey down in Cabarrus County...not nearly as bad! I always considered property tax on cars a scam anyway...politicians finding another way to get their hands on our money!

Try $4,000/year for a modest 1,300 sq ft three bed two-bath house in the San Francisco Bay Area. That's an extra $333 a month in payments just for the friggen taxes. Even if I pay my house off I'm stuck with a significant payment to "the man" for the rest of my existence in this house...
Oh, and it would be around $500/mo if I were being taxed at assessed value. It just crazy out here

No, you're right. The tax is just on my 8. Sorry, I should have noted that. Ok, now I gotta go find my prop tax on my home... I'll be back...

And we were just complaining about ours- for 2 cars we had to pay $260...thought we were getting the short end of the stick. (our property tax isn't nearly what everyone else's is, either- around $2,500 for a 2,200 sq ft 4 bedroom house). I feel rather fortunate right now....

My wife's dad has a house in NJ, it's $8,000 a year.
If the same house was in newark, it would be $20,000 a year just for taxes.
One month he paid over $3,000 just for the heating bill.
Next year when gas prices are expected to hit $3 per gallon, forget about it..

$837.65 prop. tax on my home last year. 3br, 2100sqft, 1.18 acres in a nicely established suburbian subdivision. Thanks guys, I'm feeling much better now.
Mugatu, man, that's rough. That difference alone might justify my buying Hymee's blower, when he gets it ready.

You guys pay property tax on CARS? Man, I thought Canadian taxes were bad, but I guess we're not suffering as much as some!
Which is not to say that we're not getting nickeled and dimed to death other ways ...

Can someone explain this to me? Are you saying you have to pay $559.80 every year separate from your car insurance just to own the rx8? Is that actually an annual property tax fee? I've never heard of this, so someone please clarify it for me. I paid sales tax on car when purchased, and I pay car insurance, and that's it. This is new to me.

Yeah, in some states, you pay property tax on cars & boats as well as homes. Like homes, they are appraised & taxed a millage rate. Add school district, etc. porkbarrel taxes also...
If you don't pay it, your registration expires. Gotta pay the taxes before they renew the registration. They get done together here. The registration renewal fee is in there as well.
