Take care of the car, and it will take care of you. Or at least MINE has.

Can they be driven in the snow IF needed?
With winter spec tires, yes you can make it through the winter. But the tires that come with the 8 cannot.

How do they take to modifications? Major and minor.
suspension mods well, power mods not so well. Bolt on's provide little gains and the major ones require major research and attention to detail.

Seeing as I'm used to gobs of power/ boost and awd grip, do you think I would be happy with this car?
You will like the handling.

Fuel consumption when you drive normal (no spirited driving)?
17-21 MPG depending on how much Hwy driving your doing.
See Above

I think you will find that driving ANY car that's a 2007 compared to your 15 year old car will be quite a bit better. The RX-8 will be just that much mo betta~!
