Q for those with spare tire option kit; mounting bar??
Still going through the 'poking around and fondling' process (sounds dirty, heh) in and around my new car.
Exploring around the trunk; So there's this approx. 1" OD bar that spans the trunk interior, onto which the spare mounts. the bar is secured on each end with two bolts, thru the trunk carpet, and generally somewhere close to the shock towers. I haven't tried to dismount the bar yet, and I can't really see exactly what's behind the carpet it bolts onto. Does anyone know?? is it in fact the shock towers or something structural....in which case this piece of tubing is acting like a strut tower brace?? that would be cool...

It bolts to the side of the truck which is where the shocks are. It bolts to the side of the shock tower, not on the suspension itself. A true shock tower brace will usually bolt to the top of each shock assemblt. I believe This bolts to the frame which houses them. It probibly gives the car some structural stability, but not like a real shock tower brace.
