question about the 2009's

I sold my 2006 back in like 2008 due to a move and other things. I picked up a 04 GTO. (Dont hate) I got the GTO for a fast line car. I plan to do things with it, that will make it a not so fun daily driver.
Anyways I was thinking about getting another RX8, this time a used one. I've seen a few 2009's for right at the 20k mark. I plan to buy it cash so i might be able to lower that even more.

Are the 09's a good buy? Last time I checked was a few years ago before launch, and it seemed they only changed the bumper and lights. Did that turn out to be the case? I see one for 20k with 9k miles on it, I might just see if i can work a deal on a new one that might be sitting on a lot some place collecting dirt.

The main reason I ask, is after the problem that was found with the bad oiling and the motors getting replaced at a high rate. I wasn't in a place in my life to deal with that crap and I just got rid of the car to avoid any unwanted problems at the time. Has that been fixed? Are people getting 100k+ out of the cars or did all those people bail also >.<.

Thanks for any help

there have been quite a few changes. I'm assuming Pete linked to the differences between the two -

also know that for now, the cobb ap is not available for 09+ models - apparently that can help provide a pretty decent power increase once the fuel maps are cleaned up. It is supposedly on it's way though...

I got a good deal with barely any negotiation. I guess it depends on the dealer, but they seem to really want to get rid of the '09s.

I just bought an '09 rx8 GT with 18k miles for 19k flat, tax title tags, etc. I found it at a lotus dealership in their back lot, they didn't want it next to the cars out front lol. Find a dealership with a wholesale lot in the back and you could find a hell of a deal. I know theres the rebate right now on rx8s but I imagine the price wouldve been 7k+ more for a new one ad id rather save 7k and have 18k miles on the car.

A dealer near me is listing 09's for 19k, 7k under the MSRP. I'm thinking about it, but i kind of hate dealers... this would be my 6th new car... and I'm not looking forward to sitting around for 4-5 hours to try and get a deal made.

No one seems to be listing any 09's on websites you gotta call around or go to the lots.

Sounds oddly familiar...sold my 07 RX-8 for a faster off the line turbo convertible...kept it because it is awesome and also bought an R3. Love the 09 much more than 04-08's and the R3 is plain sexy stock.

You should be able to get a great deal on an 09. My dealer is giving 7000 off MSRP on 09's with no negotiation so could probably get 8-9k off MSRP.

It shouldn't be too hard to get a good deal. Maybe I got lucky with a good/easy/desperate dealer, but my experience was pretty painless. Being my first new car and first time with a dealer, I was not looking forward to negotiating, but it wasn't bad at all. I think they really just want to get of the '09's. The car I bought was listed on cars.com for 33,030 (list) so I thought I'd really have to fight for a good price but the first offer they made was so good I only had to make one counter-offer. They met me halfway and we had a deal.

However that was mid-December, which I hear is one of the best times to buy car. I guess because the dealers want to meet year-end quotas or something.
