Question about AT
In a traditional automatic, if you're going 50 mph in 4th gear, and you floor the accelerator, the transmission will automatically downshift to the appropriate gear.
In the manual shifting mode of the AT, will the AT automatically select the appropriate gear (probably 2nd), or will it leave it in 4th?

The automatic in "pseudo-manual" mode will downshift automagically when you come to a stop, I know that -- the bottom-level speeds at which it will do this are actually in the user manual. And I know it will downshift automagically in regular automatic mode when you stomp on the accelerator and already in fourth...
I'd check the manual first.
Of course, why put the car in "pseudo-manual" if you're not interesting in downshifting and upshifting yourself in those situations?

He talking if your in 4th in you hit the gas right? It should jump down to 3rd. Just like if your in 3rd and you hit the gas it should just down to 2nd. Atleast it happens to me when I do it.
It does depend on what your rpms are too! But you can always do it manually with your shifter!

No, I believe he's asking if you're in the "manual mode", and you stomp on the gas, will it automatically downshift? I'm thinking it won't... because you've got it in manual mode, it'll only change gears when you tell it to (or when it needs to, to avoid damage/stalling).

It don't now the AT on a RX8, but usually, for this kind of AT used in manuel mode, if you floor, it will not downshift. For that you need to REALLY floor the pedal (hardly) there's a hard point, and if you exceed it, it will downshift. But I don't know if it works the same way for the 8, but I guess so.
