question about appearance package
I am in the market to buy a new 06 RX8 with the appearance package, however I can not find one in the color I like nearby with that package. Is it feasible to buy the car and then buy the respective lips separately, get them painted, and then put them on myself? It seems that they are just bolt on, plus this whole process might save me a lot of money (assuming the painting is not over 200-300 bux). I also wanted to do the same for the rotary accent package. Any suggestions?
Can you do this with the navigation too? Or is that just too much wiring to do on a new car?
Thanks all!

Yes you can buy the appearance pkg and put it on yourself. Pretty easy to do. Some vendors here have the kit in stock already painted to match. Or you can check out the Parts For Sale/Wanted section. You can find the kit there and just have it re-painted if needed.
Those vendors also carry the rotary accents as well.
As far as the nav...if you realy really really want it your best bet is to find an 8 with Nav. Too expensive and time consuming to install afterwards in my opinion. Or just do as I did and find a good aftermarket gps system like Garmin. Great products and great prices not to mention portable.

You can buy all the parts to the appearance package, pre-painted to match the car. (check http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ior_index.html ) If I recall correctly, to purchase the parts aftermarket is about the same as the sticker cost ($900+). I've recently put on the front splash guards, which were ridiculously easy to do, but I've heard that the side aero flares require drilling. Not sure about the rear flares or the front lip. Heck, look into the Mazdaspeed kit...it looks SWEET, the pieces can be purchased pre-painted, but it's pricey.
One other thing you might try is using the search function on the Mazda North America website to find the car you want. You can put in your zip, set a mileage range, pick your color and then just look for one with the option package and kit already in/on it. I found my car that way. I drove 2.5 hours to buy it, but got exactly what I was looking for and the dealership was top notch.
