Question about buying an '04 rx8?
ok so guys, i have been roaming on the boards reading absolutely EVERYTHING possible to read about in the threads, stickies, n everything on this site for the past 8 months? i dont remember when i signed up
anywho....since i signed up on here i had my mind set up on getting an 8 and selling my mazda 6 which i will do when i get the 8. I made up my mind to get an '06 or up because of problems with the '04s.
Buuut seeing sooo many good deals on '04 idk what to do!!!!!!!
im a bit worried about getting an '04 because warranties are almost up, mileage, first model of the 8, n the constant problems with the '04s. I know many of the problems with the '04s have been with the automatics but its still constantly on my mind!!
i want a 6-speed manual so idk if its just me that i think ill be better off getting a newer model but with prices of the '04s its driving me nuts...any advice would help
thanks guys and sorry for such a long post!

It is warm in FL and you should not have to worry about the temps that people have troubles with. Yes the 04's are a great deal right now. I am finding some gt's up here for 11-12k with decent miles. Have you driven one yet? If not go drive one. The drive should be what you need to figure out if you want to add the RX to your family. Feel of the wheel seals the deal.

An '04 could be fine, but you'd want to be careful and find one that has been maintained and has had the TSBs taken care of. The engine warranty has been extended to 8yr/100K, so you're ok on that front. Most of the problems that I've had are annoyances or cosmetic (fogged lights, broken visors and *****, etc.); so I'd consider how much that type of thing bugs you.

The '04 is probably fine, IF it was properly taken care of. That's the catch. Most '04s have a fair number of miles on them, enough for previous owners to have done plenty of damage through abuse or neglect.
IMHO, mileage is at least as important as model year. I'd look for deals on low mileage 8s of any model year. I bought used, and low mileage is what sold me.
Wait a bit and look around. The lack of space on lots is causing some really crazy deals to pop up. Take a look on AutoTrader.com, you might find some deals that are worth buying from another city or even another state.

I will surely keep an eye out and talk to some ppl see if i can find some good ones for ya! Could try Classic Mazda on North Semoran/436 right beside HOLLER honda they did have quite a few used ones for a good deal(depending on ur price range but if you have not been there you could glance there that's not far from u!

marklar...you hit exactly what i was worried about
what mostly worries me i forgot to mention are the previous owners. in my mind i see '04 models as cars that were probably abused, especially the higher miles on the car. It just seems that it will be difficult to find a good one in great condition where i wont have to worry too much about reliability with it.
How much did you get your 8 for vezrx? im sooo dying here with agony of wanting an 8! but i wont be able to til probably end of january or beginning of february for sure. Ahhhhhh!

i bought my 04 with 66k miles, i've got like 76k on it now (6 months later)... i have had absolutely no problems. the car was a 2 owner, the first owner had everything done on time and all the recalls done right away. the second only had the car for 10k miles. just make sure all the recalls were done promptly and you should be alright. sticking to a 1 or 2 owner couldnt hurt either. goodluck

Dude, a car with reasonably high miles means it's driven often and is usually well maintained. I'd be suspicious of a car with too-low mileage. Besides the engine has a warranty of 8 yrs / 100K miles. Just check that all recalls and TSBs are done and you should be good.
