question about torque

maybe a stupid question but im no engine buff. is it possible when adding more hp to a rotary engine to also add more torque or do you have to get other parts for torque that you wouldnt use for hp.........is it even possible to ad more torque to a car......if so what would i use

HP is derived from TQ, gearing and engine speed. Here is a very good article from Paul Yaw:

The simplest I can explain it is:

      Your basic formula:

      HP = (TQ * RPM)/5252

      How do you increase TQ generated by an engine? Make it breath in/out better, make more air get into the combustion chamber. That's what exhaust, intake and induction changes do. Read: Supercharging, turbocharging, nitrous injection, porting (intake and exhaust), etc...

      thanks for the input. it makes it a little more clearer. i guess i will learn over time when i start applying some performance parts. again thanks
