A question i've been asking on my rx8.

When i should rev the motor to 9000 rpm for getting off carbon build up? when i'm driving? Or when I am on neutral gear( does it do any harm rev it to 9000 rpm when its on neutral)?

Nothing to worry about other than the relation of the thing you said not to mention and the engine's cranking speed. Depending on what PCM flash you are on and what starter is equipped you can experience or avoid a no start condition known as fuel flooding.

I tried my best not to speak of certain things that will remain unmentioned until you provide permission . Outside of that, you should have nothing to worry about.

Paul.

which is....

If you are going to push the needle all the way to 9000rpm, you might as well do it when driving. Gotta have real fun with the car

Although I believe power production stops around 8000rpm or so, but the "beeep" sound can be quite addictive

I know but sometimes i need to move the car in the garage, and i let it warm up and revv it to 9000 on neutral when its warmed up so I it doesnt flood. Is that wrong? Or I must drive it? I know its addictive, having the 8 for three months now too bad i only went out 3x becuase its always raining and now i need to service it and I dont know which oil I'll use im confused, i see much diferent opinions, any help on oil too? Thanks.

Don't rev it to 9k when your just moving it. If you need to shut the engine off when it's. cold, rev to 3-4k rpms for about 20sec.

Don't go over 4k till the engine is fully warmed up!

Most people use 5w-30 conventional oil.

I usally let it warm up then rev it between 7-9k rpm for 5 seconds on neutral, is that ok?

If you are revving the motor to help minimize carbon build up, it won't do much in neutral with no load. This should be done with wide-open throttle under load (I prefer hills for maximum effect), so all the ports are open and there is maximum flow and pressure.

I never rev it until I have driven the car for at least 5 minutes or perhaps 2-3 miles so I am sure it is nicely warmed up. Going by the guages is dumb, the car is not really warmed up. I do not rev it to 9000, perhaps to 7500. I do not rev it every day either, now perhaps once every 3 days or so. The other times, I generally am well under 5-6k. The car (09, GT) has gone about 32000k without any problems to date.

You keep reading this forum and pretty soon you will be paranoid that the engine will blow up if you do not rev it to the limits every day, if you do not pre-mix, change coils every 30k, and more.

Depending on the outside temperature the car takes anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes AFTER the water temp gauge is set to be really warm.
You'r basically revving a cold engine after 5 minutes or 2-4 miles.

That oil is fine. If you lived further north, where winter temperatures could get sub-zero (Fahrenheit) you'd need something lighter. Synthetic is only an issue in North America where there's an 8 year engine warranty that some dealers will not honor if you use synthetic.
