Question Question? New RX8 Owner for 1,200 bucks

I purchased a 2004 RX8 With blown motor for 1,200 dollars.
Yes you read right. clean title no liens etc.

I got a great deal it has black and red leather interior and everything.

They said Apex seals are bad. so i can either replace them.
put a new rx8 motor in, or my main question

would it be possible to put the 13b rx7 motor in my rx8? what would have to be done?

i have access to a perfect running 13b motor in my city.
it would save me time and money if it's possible to swap.

Any Help is appreciated

It is possible, but the conversion would cost more than it would be to get a rebuilt engine.

The car looks nice. Can't beat the price.

i talked to Mazda they can get a reman engine installed for 2,300 so that's what i am going to do.

I just wanted a diff motor then the 04 cause i read all the problems.
but maybe if i use the premix method and thicker oil i will have good luck.

Also make sure the car has the latest ECU flashes. They improve the OMP metering. Look up MSP16.

they ALL have the same motor.
the 04 was more likely to be problematic was the old ECU firmware not injecting enough oil.

nevermind guys. Mazda lied lol 4,700 total.
i don't have that kind of cash.

the 3 year warranty would be nice but not when i can get a engine off ebay for 2,000
and just do the flash like you guys suggest.

Wow, $2,300 did sound way to cheap for a reman engine and install, nice purchase for $1,200, cant beat that. Body looks decent. Is that an automatic trans? 04-06 A/T had smaller wheels/tires stock than the 6 speed man came with...hard to tell from the pic.

Even if you purchased the engine off of eBay for that cheap wouldn't you still have to pay for shipping and installation? Unless of course you're planning on swapping them yourself.

Provided that the tranny and everything else is fine....wow...$1,200.00 for the "shell" is not bad at all!

Tranny is shot. oil leaks right out.

I actually got engine to start today with new plugs. and got 90 psi readings for compression.
but there is a knocking sound that has yet to go away.

We will find out ahah.

I just started it again and the motor sounds EXCELLENT!
Weird knock noise is from transmission.

I really think the motor is good for a few miles any way.
So looks like after another 1,000 for tranny i will be riding a rx8 around town.

as long as motor stays healthy.

and i was told the torque converter. it's just gushing out and looks like engine oil.
my friends said they abused tranny cause it should be healthy looking fluid.

A Civic? Really? Piece of ****!!
I would not trade the seats in my 8 For a Civic.

I have always wanted a rx8 since the first day they came out.
turns out engine is just fine.

Good compression and all.

As a method for getting around, civics aren't as terrible as people are making them out to be. Work with what you can.

Unless you're planning on doing a lot of this work yourself, then you should be prepared to face the fact that you might not be able to afford getting this 8 running properly, even with the amazing deal you found. I hope you have another method of getting around.

I'm also interested in the mileage on the car.

I am having to replace tranny. ( 800.00 ) and my friend will install for (200.00 )

Car has 112,000 miles with complete service records.

So at the end you'll end up spending $2,200. That's not bad either
