Zoom44 - You're right about the "i'm an engineer" stuff, and every one has been helpful.
Was simply responding to the one post that didn't really help - and said I was lazy, move my head - it's geometry.

Saw that if you cover the front sensor on the rearview, that might help. Who knew there was one ?? And I guess my question is why... Anyone else tried covering it? And btw, the flipping the rearview upside down has helped . I think the spoiler was blocking it sometimes.

I have a problem as well with the brightness of the side-mirrors. Has anyone tinted their mirrors blue like on german cars? Can you just buy replacement mirrors somewhere that are pre-tinted?

the mirror compares the light values from front and rear to determine if it is necessary for it to dim. so if you block the front it will think it must be really dark out and dim to its darkest as quick as it can when light hits the rear sensor. at most normal light levels that means at night it will probably always be dimmed.
