Questions and hopefully answers??
Hey wassup guys....obvously my screenname says it all about my experience wit rotary. so i joined the forum to have a better understanding about this great car besides driving it!
I read almost every post and comments and certain things got me confused. wen people say 5g and 6g wat does that mean? And wat can i do to keep my new baby running right?
gas mileage is an issue, any recomemdations towards maybe wat rpm to change gears?
or maybe to make it easier is there a website that teaches me everything i need to know? i dont even now if my rx is a touring gt watever i dont even now if it a 2 rotor or three....
sorry guys i just really wanna learn about my car...... I used to be a 4 piston freak.....i wanna be different for once and not own a civic or a vw haha thanks guys!!!!!

For gas mileage the best way to "save" gas is to change gears at about 3k Rpm's, but the car isn't as fun that way and if you want to have some real fun take 2nd, 3rd and 4th up above 5 - 6k RPM (and keep going if you want). Also I think there is a FAQ on the 8 somewhere around here that shows how the engine works (compared to a piston engine). Also Your rx-8 is a 2 rotor, Im 95% sure but im not mechanically inclined so theres a chance I'm wrong. Oh and just so you know the stock tires suck in the snow, get winter tires if you will be driving your car in snow.

Well first off is searching around this site will teach u alot...basically check the oil every 2 fill ups and make sure it is warmed up before you shut it off. For the gas mileage it's never gonna b great either way but shifting before 3750 rpm's saves gas up to like 2mpg becuase at that rpm the second set of injectors kick in..Welcome to the addiction rotors are WAAAAAYYYY more fun than pistons any day.......
P.S. A redline a day keeps the carbon away!!!

Welcome!
It is a two rotor, for sure. If it was three, that would be kick ***, but no.
Changing around 3k works and you can drive it around 2 or so, but you will notice that transmission is smoother at higher rpms usually. Nonetheless, don't expect you will get gas mileage near any Civic's. I bet if you had a V8 you wouldn't be switching to rotary jk Anyways, here is what I have learned:
You want to be red lining this car once a day or so. It is good for it, that makes sure more oil is metered into the chamber and it keeps carbon from building up.
You don't want to drive it hard before it is warmed up, keep it under 4k while it is cold.
Check the oil level often, these engines consume oil and that is normal. If the oil dipstick has a mayo or foamy substance on it, that is normal too, just go drive the car hard and that will go away.
Do not turn the car off while it is still cold, such as backing it out of the garage into the driveway and then turning it off. This will flood the car because you will leave unburned gas in the chamber and that will dissolve the oil; consequently, the engine cannot build pressure and start. It is okay to turn it off and on quickly, but only if it is warm.
Finally, stay on top of your maintenance and take good care of it. That is common sense though.
